Movie Review: "1408"

Every once in awhile, I would actually go out and see a movie in the theatre instead of waiting for it to come out on DVD so I can rent it. Why would I rather rent than go see it in the theatre, well, people just don't know how to act during a movie, espically when it comes to turning off the damn cell phone!

Anyways, tonight I went to go see "1408", which is a movie about a writer who mainly writes about the haunted places that he's visited. Well in the movie he goes to the Dolphin Hotel to stay in room 1408. Thinking that this is another 'haunted' place (that isn't really haunted) he gets the shock of his life, a shock that will change his life.

Now normally when you think of 'horror' you think of movies like "Halloween" "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" "Friday the 13th" etc. Basically blood and guts movies that has alot of glory scene and cussing. Well 1408 is more in depth than that, it has a very well thought out storyline, and every thing that happened to the writer in the room 1408 has a purpose, and a reason. Whoever wrote the script for this movie is a very good writer. The visual effects were well done too, and it draws your eyes into the movie, and it's just an amazing piece of visual work. However the movie did fail in the sense that it had one too many sentimental scene and not enough horror scene.

I give "1408" 9/10.

Go see it!

I plan to. I'm a bit of a horror buff, particularly smart horror. :)

Yeah, but you can throw crap at people with laser pointers and cell phones and get away with it. Also, the screen is gynormous. And the sound system r0x0rs.

Grammar Nazi time!
"Gory scenes" not "glory scene".
And don't use second person. When I think of horror movies, I don't think of slasher flicks like you mentioned, so why are you telling me I did? :p

john cusack is a better actor than i realized. he really makes the movie. which is good since he is in virtually every scene.

See "Identity". He's great in that movie.

it is, however, not necessary to see it on the big screen. its going to be just as good on your home tv.

I ended up thinking the same thing, and actually stopped reading. If the author thinks slasher films=horror films, and further assumes that I think the same thing then he doesn't know enough about the subject for his review to be of any use.

That's just it - HE's the "ghost"!

Whoops. Said too much.

It was based off a King short story of course.

And if I can guess from the movie, the story might have been the inspiration behind Silent Hill 4: The Room as well.

1408 almost made my itinerary, but I'm not a big fan of Horror Films and thought it would be as lame as the rest of them, that and my typical movie group has already decided on Live Free or Die hard this month and Transformers next month. We try to watch one movie a month, just cuz...

There wouldn't have been a movie at all if he was the protagonist.

"IF THIS ROOM IS SUPPOSED TO BE A HAUNTED PIECE OF SHIT THAT'S KILLED PEOPLE OR DRIVEN THEM INSANE, THEN WHO'S THE MOTHERFUCKER THAT THOUGHT IT WOULD BE A GREAT FUCKING IDEA TO KEEP IT OPEN INSTEAD OF FILLING THE SONOFABITCH WITH CONCRETE!?"

i know there arent many good movies around but live free or die hard???

you must be a huge fan of bruce willis to decide to pay money for an Nth sequel to a movie that had no good sequels.
