Passport Canada is surprisingly efficient.

I finally got my completed form to the passport office last week and today (8 days later) I get the passport itself couriered to me.

So apparently if you want to get a Canadian passport, now is a good time.

An old Indian told me to flash my tribal ID and tell them my ancestors didn't need a passport.

Your ancestors also would have been walking accross the border.

Huh?

Your ancestors didn't need a passport, but they also didn't have cars or airplanes to cross the borders so they would have been walking.

Hell, if I were to go to Europe and run around (well, finding non-EU countries to pop in and out of) and claim that my European ancestors didn't need a passport, they'd still refuse to let me cross the borders.

Did they let you smile? (http://youtube.com/watch?v=W8PBF5h-9Qg) lolz :D
No, but when they told me that I couldn't smile I had a giggle fit and my facial expression almost makes me happy that these things expire after five years.

So, how many officials did you bribe for such levels of efficiency? ;)

Oh yeah, well in America we get to wait 4 weeks for our passports! Sometimes 5, if we're lucky!

None. Although I did just get off work when I submitted my application and I wished the man at the passport office a very nice day so maybe he put mine on the top of the pile. (I'm usually very happy once I've left work because it means I don't have to work again for at least 16 more hours... plus I deal with customers at work so I'm used to saying "have a nice day" at the end of a transaction.)

you havent been paying attention.

this year the rules changed so that you need to have a passport to get back into the country when flying from canada mexico or the carribean islands.

thousands of people have had their vacations ruined because it has been taking more than 12 weeks to get their passports back. it took my sister 13 weeks to get hers renewed.

the state dept had plenty of notice that it was going to get slammed on this passport thing but they couldnt be bothered to ask for more money and more people to deal with it.

Well, it's really our own fault. Very few Americans actually have a passport, at least until these rules came into affect. Hell, I know of one senator (forget whom) who prides himself on not having a passport.

Did you remember to tip with a half ounce of pot? That tends to help when working with government officials.
