How many fire trucks, firemen, and water are needed to rescue a kitten?
The answer is two fire trucks, five firemen, 250 gallons of water, and several animal rescue people to rescue a 2 lb kitten from a storm drain. :fluffle:

I think the fire engines were a bit much, but it's not like there was a house fire they were being diverted away from. The fact that this wound up in USA Today is just a combination of a slow news day and a slow fire day. This seems like just the kind of job that you'd send your volunteer (as in unpaid) firefighters on, as well.
Speaking of which, the concept of the volunteer firefighter relies on a good relationship between the station and the community. Cutesy rescues like this build that relationship. Maybe there was a kid in the crowd who'll grow up to be a firefighter because of what he saw.
Of course I'm biased though; I'm a cat person.
