Amal Nassif believed 17-year-old Francesca Zackey when she said the Virgin Mary would appear if Nassif gazed into the sun.

Now 37-year-old Nassif, a devout Catholic, may be blind for life.

She went to Zackey - the Benoni girl who claims to have repeatedly seen the mother of Jesus - to receive a blessing.

Now she says at least four other people also damaged their eyes after being told "the lady" would spin the sun and confirm her presence to her believers.

A bunch of Catholics stare at sun and go blind because a 17 year old girl told them to do it.
Stupidity? Blind faith?

Oh, there's this one thing in semen...I think it might be potassium, but anyway...Whatever it is, you need it to see. So, technically, if you did it nonstop and were unable to run out of semen, you could go blind.

But yeah, in reality it's basically impossible to go blind from such a thing.

Some may consider shouting "fire" in a crowded theater to be a "joke." Nonetheless, such an act can be potentially dangerous to those who take it seriously. Indeed, now that the immoral individual in question is starting a type of church, this transcends the "joke" label into outright malicious behavior. She is an evil girl who preys on innocent religious folk.

What would you do if a random passing teenager told you staring at the sun would let you see a holy figure of your choosing?

True, God does work in mysterious ways. However, from the information available to me, I have no recourse but to conclude that she did not, in fact, witness a miracle. The fact that many true believers were blinded seems to negate divine intervention, unless this is simply part of God's larger plan.

If this girl is not blessed and looks at the sun anyway, she will go blind. Given that she is not blind but nonetheless claims to daily gaze at the sun, she must be a liar. Given that she can so blatantly lie and commit vile sins, she must not be a Christian. I doubt that she is of another religion; therefore, she is an atheist.

sinful behavior is not a mental illness. mental ilness negates free will, sin does not. as i see it the whole problem is what does one define as sin. in many christians mind this is simply anything that they do not like. this is especially true of most fundie's. they love the old testament cause it lists so many forms of sin, forgeting that little part about christ's birth did away with the old covenant and thereby negating all of the rules up till the birth of christ. and even though he said he did not come to do away with the law thats exactily what his birth did. he tried to explain this to simon peter but well he just couldn't grasp the concept. and no that does not mean you will not still be sinning if you break many of the 10 commandments though christ did greatly simplify them for all, love thy god,you know do unto others, love thy god, judge not:rolleyes:

But yeah, in reality it's basically impossible to go blind from such a thing.

Potassium (K+) allows for action potential (the electrical charge that sends nerve impulses). It's not particularly concentrated in the semen, and a deficiency of it would cause hypokalemia (literally, "low potassium"), which causes muscle weakness, arrythmia, and seizures, not blindness.

The myth that excessive masturbation leads to blindness probably comes from French health warnings a couple centuries ago. The warnings were caused by moral panic, naturally...

Yes, like those lazy people with MS.

So people with Tourettes Syndrome characterised by uncontrolled swearing, etc choose to do that?

That's actually a terrible example, because tics aren't involuntary actions, they're "unvoluntary", i.e., they are voluntary actions, but the impulse to perform them is irresistable. So, the sufferers of Tourette's could be said to be "succumbing to temptation" by nutjobs like F&G here.

Schwullunde;12793527']hmm i wonder if he means me??? to be honest if he does i am non denominational.

oh just a little language lesson kiddies that word means , a bundle of sticks used for starting fires. this word came to be associated with gays in the inquisition when it was common to use several as "kindling" for their lovely practice of burning little old ladies. of course in europe it generally means cigarette.

also just a point even with the little dots that word can and most likely get you banned. if someone here really thinks that those who use it are really worth the time:p

Actually, I did mean you, you dirty homosexual. :p

Yeah had forgotten about that at the time (and i'd just read that a few days ago. Shame on me). Thanks for the clear up. I'll change to schizophrenia then. Do I get a do-over? Just take your pick from a truly involuntary condition

That is so hilarious and to the guy who commented that the 17 year old is a evil atheist, did you read the article?

"Zackey says Nassif's problem is not her fault and that she is praying for the woman."

Why would an atheist be praying for anyone.

Btw, my favorite quote

"It went out of my hands, people look at the sun at their own risk," she said. "I am not the sun."

Well, to be fair, sometimes things do just happen and people get injured through freak accidents, playing sports(even while following all safety precatuions), or whatever. In this case, it was a superstitious idiot listening to another superstitious idiot.

Its a bit subjective to decide what constitutes a stupid injury when sports are involved. I could say it is stupid to put yourself in harms way in dangerous sports like rugby, trampolining, etc and even in the safer ones like skydiving, scuba diving, etc

Yep and in fact you have law on your side there.

Many years ago I damaged two fingers whilst doing karate, I had several days off work because of it, and when I got back was told:

'You know you either have to let us take some of your holiday, or you won't get paid for the time off you have had, as it counts as a self inflicted injury'

No, it shows that if God exists, he doesn't want people to believe in him. That's why he keeps punishing those who do. Like how when Katrina hit New Orleans. The area with all the strip bars and prostitutes was the least hit part of the city.

I think getting socked in the nose for being a dick someone you know to be a practicing martial artist out of his duly earned wages ought to count as a self-inflicted injury.
