Greeting forum-goers! after an excellent response to my hard puzzle last week, i've decided to give you all another utterly horrid teaser.

Last Week's answer:

Easy: The Woman was resussitating a man in the street.

Hard: Orville did it. (Alfred= lied Egbert= lied Wilfred= true Orville= true)

Too see a perfect piece of reasonning, see AnarchyeL (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=12752553&postcount=25)'s answer- well done sir!

Results: (EASY)

Correct Answer: Compulsive Depression

Most Imaginative Answer: Jello Biafra (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=12751158&postcount=18)

(HARD)

Correct Answer: Seathornia, AnarcheL, Nobel Hobos, Ginnoria

Most Effort: Ginnoria

Today's (hard) puzzle:

Six students took a test. Their names were: Adrian, Boris, Chris, Dennis, Earl and Fergus. The test consisted of two multiple choice questions (with answers a, b, c or d) and four true or false (t or f) questions.

They answered the questions as follows:

Adrian:__a---a---t---t---t---t
Boris:___b---b---f---f---f---t
Chris: __c---c---f---t---f---f
Dennis:_d---a---f---f---t---t
Earl: ___b---c---t---f---t---f
Fergus:_d---d---f---t---f---t

No two students got the same number of correct answers.

Who got the most correct answers?

A bit like last week really. Possibly a tad easier. Good Luck!

Fergus did. He's got Scottish superpowers.

The students were attending Cambridge High School, an institution very proud of its 100% pass rate in NCEA Level One. Because the school encouraged the idea that there is no wrong or right answer, all the students got 100% in what was an internal assessment. Therefore, the reputation of Cambridge High School was maintained as having a proud 100% pass rate, and just in case there were any problems, each of the students were asked to take a litter collection class in which they got six credits.

Amusing fact: This should be puzzle #9, since last time was #7 and #8

Earl - due to his Southern redneck heritage, he came to school with a sawed off shotgun and murdered the other students during the examination, and filled in the wrong answers for everyone else.

they all failed for copying each other, but Boris did best because his cat had died before the exam and thus received +2 points

Huzzah! It's about damn time I won one of these!

Lessee for this one:

Adrian couldn't have gotten them all right because Boris and Chris would each get one right, and no two students got the same number of questions right.
Boris couldn't have gotten them all right because Chris and Earl would each have gotten two right.
Chris couldn't have gotten them all right because Dennis and Adrian would each have gotten one right.
Dennis couldn't have gotten them all right because Fergus and Adrian would each have gotten three right.
Earl couldn't have gotten them all right because Boris and Chris would each have gotten two right.
Fergus couldn't have gotten them all right because Chris and Dennis would each have gotten three right.
This means that nobody got them all right. Someone must have gotten them all wrong, and someone got 5 right.
Starting with Adrian, if he is the one who got 5 answers right, then either his second true answer or his fourth is wrong. (Since those are the ones that Boris and Chris had correct.) Changing the last true answer doesn't work, but changing his 2nd true answer (4th answer overall) does work.
Since this works, and I'm too lazy to check the others, I'll go with Adrian having the most correct answers, going like this:
Adrian - 5
Boris - 2
Chris - 0
Dennis - 4
Earl - 3
Fergus - 1

Er, no- Last week's puzzles were #6 and #7. I may not be the best puzzler on the net but I do have some level of mathematical merit.

Number is a branch of mathematics. Anyway- enough of this petty squabbling. If I wanted you all to criticise my posting accuracy then I would have posted a puzzle saying: "What is wrong with this post?"

Besides, why complain when you can reap the spoils of correctly solving one of these devious puzzles!

Toodles for now :)

That's pretty much what I got, I used a similar method as you for the first half and then through a bit of supposition was able to work out the correct answers for the questions...

Let C=0

If c=0 then answers are ??TFTT, so a>=3, b>=2+, d>=3, e>=3, f>=1
So c=0, and f=1.

so answers are not (c or d) (c or d) FTFF
so answers are (a or b) (a or b) TFTT

if answers are aaTFTT, A=5, B=2, C=0, D=4, E=3, F=1
if answers are abTFTT, A=4, B=3, C=0, D=4, E=3, F=1
if answers are bbTFTT, A=3, B=4, C=0, D=3, E=4, F=1
if answers are baTFTT, A=4, B=3, C=0, D=4, E=4, F=1

Only the answers aaTFTT give the correct spread of results.

And the answer to the question as asked is 'Adrian'.
