Tulsa time capsule opened. Car a mess.

Fifty years ago, a 1957 Plymouth was buried along with a time capsule in Tulsa, Ok. The opened up the crypt the car was in a few days ago and unfortunately, the crypt leaked and the car and its contents are in horrible shape. The time capsule didn’t leak and its contents are fine.

Tulsa should be ashamed of itself. I’m watching this event on TV right now. The media from all over the world is covering this event. So, why should Tulsa be ashamed? Armatures could have done better as Master of Ceremonies for this event. They are doing a horrible job of covering this historic event. They haven’t a clue as to what they are doing, and one of them is a former local radio personality.

God, a cave man could have done a better job.

I FIND THAT OFFENSIVE!

And what the hell is the point of opening a time capsule from '57? Yeah, like we've completely forgotten what the 50s were like, and there's no one left alive to ask... gee... that's just too bad...

They couldn't wait another 50 years to open this up?

Good thing they didn't. In another 50 years they would have had nothing but rust. However, they may have done a much better job showing it on TV.

I would've bet anything that the car was a mess - time capsules are prone to leakage. :p It's happened before.

Those ads are kinda funny, I think. Not worthy of a t.v. show, but funny.

Also, I hope the container with the contest entries to the "guess Tulsa's population in '07" contest aren't destroyed. I'd like to see that! :p

They were in the time capsule which did not leak. The winner gets the car. They said the car is in such bad shape it can't even be restored. Everything that was put in the car is pretty much trash, even the beer. :(

Buriedcar.com says the microfilm with the contest data was in the car, but hopefully you're right. :(

I watched it on the local TV station and they thought the microfilm was in the car. However, they found a list and the post cards in the time capsule which did not leak. If the winner is still alive I doubt they will want the car. It and the other artifacts will probably go to a museum.

Don't be so sure - Tulsa is, I believe, the second largest city in Oklahoma, after all.

I'm sure they wouldn't want the car. But knowing you won after 50 years would be pretty sweet either way! :p

I didn't say that the ads weren't funny. My reaction was due to captain obvious' statement.

I should've done more than a simple sigh, but oh well.

Why do people put time capsule in the ground anyways, wouldn't it make much more sense to put it in a safe, or somewhere above ground where it's preserve better and for longer?

Some are in above-ground vaults or just well-drained basements, I believe. There's a big one in Atlanta that's above ground.

Ahh cool. I wonder if anyone ever stuck twinkies inside of them. They're either susspose to turn into gold, or liquor or something.

Not sure about the twinkies. :p I know that they found a bunch of food and supplies in some bridge in New York dating to WWII once, though I think the food was bad. Though that only proves that regular crackers will go bad after 60 years.

Cost. Above ground property is more valuable than underground property. That's probably why most folks are buried underground than above ground.

Those people buried underground usually disqualify that spot of ground for development, though. They might as well own the above-ground spot, since no one's going to build their house on a graveyard. :p

Well, from a Google search, there's a South African news source that is reporting it, and one from England...and a publication called Tulsa World...it's got "World" in the title...so...I don't know how to end that sentence...
