What do you do with your socks that have developped holes?

I tend to buy cute little socks that are usually stripey or have some cute cartoon characters and the like, so I feel bad throwing them out (especially since the pattern is usually ok on part of the sock, it's just that there are holes in the toe or heel) so I've been cutting some of them up to make little wristbands...

I can't really think of a better way to reuse them though... any suggestions?

I use mine for dustrags, or give 'em to the cats to play with.

Hehe, one time Amelia got her head stuck in one of my socks, it was fun to watch. Of course after we got it off she wouldn't come to any of us for a few days, she was mad lol. :p

When the holes get too large, I just toss 'em. Hope that's not too wasteful. :p

Well, usually I do that, but last weekend I wore a pair that had a gaping hole in the heel and I ended up with a giant blister on the back of one foot so I decided to take action and remove teh socks with holes in them from active rotation.

You make it sound like a military organisation lol I like it

Oh, plus they hurt my toes sometimes when they have holes on the toes... I'll have like two toes sorta crammed through a hole somehow.

Ah, protective sleeves... that sounds like a good idea as well. I suppose that would involve cutting off part that's defective and maybe sewing up one end...?

i usually just fold them over themselves with the hole exposing the important bits like buttons or screens or the carry-handle.

Ah, ok. It would have been really weird if she was a daughter or drunken aunt or something.

Weird, but interesting.

I wash my holey socks and...

turn them into rags.
for socks with small holes on em, and turn them into pot holders
depending on where the hole is, I also use colored pens and make sock puppets with my neices and nephews.
also use them as link catchers for my laundry machine.

Hmm. Maybe I should turn my next holy pair of socks into gloves. It is awfully cold waiting for the bus in the morning.
