The products, which also include herbal tinctures sold in pharmacies, are widely available, cheap and contain up to 97% alcohol, the Lancet study says.
It was found that they contain very few toxins but are deadly simply because of the extreme alcohol levels.

I've heard tales of the seventies, when college students would all just buy a bunch of crappy booze, and dump it all into a large bucket/trough with some fruit and drink it. I've heard tell that aftershave made its way into said bucket/trough at least once.
Actually, during the 1980's in the Soviet Union, people drank perfumes and aftershaves because they were a source of alcohol; Gorbachev's (idiotic) anti-alcohol campaign cut off the legitimate sources of alcoholic beverages, forcing people to find alternatives.
It's not as odd as you think. I imagine more than a few of these people did the same thing during the 80's as they are now.

People on the Reserve have known this for years.
Most stores won't sell aftershave by the case to Indians anymore. Even when the purchaser is himself a store owner.
Ugh, but yeah. Seen this a lot.

A whole bottle of cold medicine could give you a very different effect. If it's got acetomenaphen/paracetamol it could fry your liver. If it's got dextromethorphan it will make you have a very weird trip.

well yea..but I wasn't getting at that..I was getting at people will consume mass quantities of things they shouldn't just to get a "buzz"
