THE FIGHT ON THE RIGHT: Neoconservatives versus Paleoconservatives

Conservative: favoring traditional views and values; tending to oppose change. But is the definition of a conservative changing in twentieth-century America? Today conservatives seem to be divided into two groups, the neoconservatives and those who view themselves as traditional conservatives—sometimes derisively called the "paleoconservatives." Are the neoconservatives, including many in the Bush administration, actually, as some charge, radicals in conservative clothing? Or have the paleoconservatives become too hidebound for their own good?

A rather old video (http://vodreal.stanford.edu/Hoover/800/fight.ram), but still a good means of seeing where the differences between neocons and paleocons lie. One thing that struck me as rather funny was how Hayward believed that should the US stop policing the world, chaos will ensue. Yet is it not the cause of many problems around the world to begin with? Now I am aware that Pat Buchanan is hardly the most consistent of individuals, though I found the attempt to colour him as an anti-semite typical of many neocons out there.

Well I think for one you can't make having backward and reactionary ideals somehow new or fresh by putting the adjective neo in front of it, their still backward.

The only difference between a Democrat and Conservative should be economics, in my opinion. Anyone who can be labeled Neo-Conservative is simply a radical who doesn't want to call himself a fascist.

I was quoting the old "Aliens vs Predator" trailer line, because it amused me, not because I was trying to gain reactions from people.

But, if you insist, I honestly believe that conservatism is, on the whole, wrong for the world. Whether it be in the way it restricts people from truly enjoying the freedom of choice they deserve, or how it often impedes scientific progress, or even how it leads to people being left open to the sharks of the business world without at least a decent amount of regulation, it's wrong, it's harmful, and simply foolish.

On that same token, you have every right to believe in it as far as I'm concerned. That's the great thing about being as liberal as I am: no matter how much you might think someone's ideas or beliefs are wrong, you accept the fact that it is their right to believe them if they choose. (Not trying to say you don't think that. I'm actually referring to extreme cases of conservatism here.)

I guess we're at an impasse.

First, I have no idea what that is.

You never watched Daisy, ergo you're unqualified to judge it's win.

It's anime. That merly by itself automatically relegates it to 'Trash That Should Be Burnt, Then The Ground Salted'

I have to say, for what it's worth, I think that picture summed up almost everything that goes on in these forums pretty well.

Not that that's a bad thing, though.

She needs to watch the teeth though. No one likes bite marks on the willy.
