Songs that make you go Mmmmm

Have you ever heard a song for the first time, and it just, sticks? It may not be a great song, or one you would normally like, but you just can't get it out of your head, and have memorized the lyrics within a few days? One that you can just rock out to forever. This happens to me every so often, and I love it when it does. Recently: Flathead, by the Fratellis (from the iPod commercial), Friday I'm in Love by the Cure, Hey Julie by Fountains of Wayne (I heard it on Scrubs), and Semi-charmed Life by Third Eye Blind. These aren't my favorite songs or ones I'd normally listen to, but I just can't stop singing them.

So, what songs make you go "Mmmmm"

Also, how was my explanation of what I thought of these songs?

Asereje by Las Ketchups. I hardly speak a word of Spanish, yet I know the words to the chorus.

The Four Horsemen by Metallica
Back In Black by AC/DC

On the former, I've heard the guitar solo in my dreams and actually recognized it in my dream.

A friend sent me Flathead by the Fratellis a couple of weeks ago and its been sitting on my computer and I've yet to hear it - I'll do that now and let you know....

EDIT: having now heard it....meh

I can see it's catchy but I can't tell if it's annoyingly so or whether it grows on you

Haha... I was just thinking about it the other day, how every time Foreigner's "I want to know what love is (http://youtube.com/watch?v=z9OGfBGOCpk)" comes on the radio while I'm driving, I have to sing along at the top of my lungs.

It's so sappy, so cliché... so catchy classic.

What can I say, I've been having an 80s nostalgia period as of late, and have had Bronski Beat's "Smalltown Boy (http://youtube.com/watch?v=U7-q1WRaKNg)" on repeat for like a day. The video is totally made for tugging at my emotions.

The most recent ones have been "Like Dylan in the Movies" by Belle and Sebastian, and "Stella Was a Diver and She Was Always Down" by Interpol (which I've been chasing down over the internet all day now).

A lot of U2 songs:

Lemon: "Midnight is where the day begins"
Stuck In A Moment: "It's just a moment, it's time will pass"
Grace: "What left a mark no longer stings, because Grace makes beauty out of ugly things"

Really, anything that makes me take a step back so I can see the bigger picture of life, you know?

I agree about "Lola." And I hate liking it, too, since it took me about a thousand years to figure out what the song is probably about - makes me feel a bit slow. :p

i totally had it when i bought Bolt Thrower's new album a few months back:

The Killchain by Bolt Thrower
Granite Wall by Bolt Thrower

i still put those two songs on before any others on the album/artist list

also there was one by Damien Marley i couldn't get out of my head. but then i tend to get a bit obsessive about what i'm listening to anyway.. tend not to change the CD for weeks until i've listened to my latest choice/buy to death...

Aserejé doesn't have any sense in spanish anyway. Really, the chorus doesn't mean nothing. It has just babbling.

Hits are "engineered" that way, many MTV bull**it music is produced and arranged using known patterns and harmonic combinations that are catchy and often derive from songs done by previous artists. You actually see some bands coming up with songs that are very similar to their latest hit (Bon Jovi anyone?).

Anything written/sung by Maynard James Keenan.

Led Zepplin - Freebird.

Fleetwood Mac/Stevie Nicks - One-winged Dove.

Pat Benatar - whatever that 'heartbreaker' song was called.

I don't hear the last three songs very often, but when I do it's very captivating.

Well, "God Moving over the Face of the Waters" by Moby. They used that for the credits in the movie Heat. Classic film... I actually do like the song, though.

Then there's "Blinded By The Lights" by The Streets and "Love Me or Hate Me" by Lady Sovereign. I don't normally like hip hop, but I can't stop listening to those songs.

Oh, and "The Trooper" by Iron Maiden is ridiculously addictive.

I thought Blinded By the Light was an Eric Clapton song? Or maybe I'm getting him confused with Phil Collins again...

I dunno anymore.
