So its like this. Some of you probably remember me mentioning a woman named Lisa in a previous thread about inspiring people you've met. We'll she asked around after that party and got ahold of me, seems she wasn't content with me being a footnote in her life. We spent the afternoons tuesday, wednsday, and thursday together and became pretty close, or so it seems. Friday morning she went back to Nigeria and I had to work so I couldn't see her off. This morning while checking my mail I find a message that has this... as a portion of it.

.... can you help me with something , l have some checks open checks to be cash , would you help me get that done by me sending it to your address by mail. l willappreciate it if you help me with 200$ to get it send and l want to tell you that you have captured my heart .
Lisa

Sounds fishy too me... I don't know if I can trust this to be legit. I like Lisa.. quite a lot. But I can't help but think something is wrong here.

Some advice please?

She had to go back to Nigeria, and then she asks you for money?

Did you know that the third largest industry in Nigeria is scams?

Seriously, I'd tell her to fuck off.

Has she mentioned yet that she's a Nigerian princess and that if you just send her the legal fees she can get access to her dead father's fortune and split it with you?

Smells awfully suspicious, even if you did meet IRL. The real world has con artists too, and they're often much better than email scammers.

I do not see what she would need $ 200 for.

EDIT: though on second thought - maybe the correct question to ask is if she was worth $ 200.

I'm sorry sweetheart. Scamming is Nigeria's principal source of income, and its residents have been known to get pretty sophisticated with their level of scamming, online and supplemented with in-person contacts. Please just block this person from your email and hope she doesn't get pugnacious about it.

Don't be sad though baby, you have a friend in NSG. <3

Eh, how about no?

1. Nigeria. NIGERIA. Capital of the scam.
2. She's a woman. Women=evil.(To be fair Men=stupid)
3. It just wreaks of scam.
4. I hate odd numbers.

Any questions?

Indeed, we'll fluffle you and give you the names of some people who can arrange for Nigeria to be "liberated" by America :p

Its exactly what I'm thinking is what everyone here is saying. No she hasn't claimed to be a princess or anything like that. She had proof to back up her only claim for going there as a missionary but still it is suspicious. I think I'm sound in taking your advice here.

I second the second part.

As for the first, maybe she's asking everyone she met for 200$.

My dad actually said yesterday that nobody would be sad if Nigeria slid into the ocean tomorrow. I was a little scandalized by that, but it's just funny that I hear pretty much the same thing here.

Some guy in America paid his way through college like that. He got on the radio and asked people to send him some trivial amount of money, and shit loads of people did.

Indeed. I got told via email to pick up some money from a guy's representative in Chile the other day, and the guy's name was MR. SUNDAY ANTHONY. The best part was, the guy's email address was MRSUNDAYANTHONY@CHILE.COM ;)

Tell her how sad you feel about being seduced and then scammed when you thought you where getting close and had something genuine. She deserves a sharp kick straight at whatever conscience she has left for playing with your heart. Then ignore any further attempts at fooling you.

not that i understand what she wrote but maybe she just wants you to cash $200 worth of checks for her. as long as you dont send her any money of your own ever, what harm can there be to extend her this small bit of trust?

...remembering that just because your bank accepts the checks doesnt mean they are legit...

...remembering that the initial 200 might be legit because she is setting you up for the counterfeit $20k international money order she will send later...

you had a good time with this woman. ask around about her. see if anyone else got the same email.

sometimes it really isnt a duck.

Say it like that and I smell money laundering.

and THAT is how they get you to do something foolish. you think "all im doing is money laundering" when they offer you $5k for cashing a $20k money order.

the thing is counterfeit but your bank cant tell. they accept it as legit, you send $15K to nigeria (or to your neighbor, its not necessarily a foreign thing) and a week later your bank tells you the bad news and takes the $20k back out of your account. they get $15K of your money. the bank wont eat the loss, you will.

Well I like to think it'd be more like "all I'm not going to do and not go to jail for is money laundering *deletes*" in my case, but you are right.

Very fishy...

Why can't she cash them herself?
And why would she need $200 to send a check?

I had a similar scam happen to me. They sent me an email saying that I was the heir to a 10 million dollar inheritance, and also a nigerian orphanage. All I had to do was give them my bank account number, and SS# to get the money, so they said. I reported them to the feds :D

That's one of the most ignorant, stereotyped, generalized things I have ever read on NSG. And you aren't "being fair", you're making yourself look even more foolish then you already did.

That's one of the most ignorant, stereotyped, generalized things I have ever read on NSG. And heightening your IQ (Ignorance Quotient) is not "being fair".

Women = time x money

but time = money

therefore women = money x money = money^2

As money is evil^(1/2), therefore women = (evil^(1/2))^2

= evil

Eh, I'm sure you've seen that before. But anyway, something tells me he wasn't being quite serious...
