What's the most romantic thing you've ever done?

Thought it might be nice to have something a little different; what is the most romantic thing you've ever done? Tradition would dictate with at least one person, but feel free to blow our small minds on the concept of romanticism. Have you proposed at dawn on a mountaintop? Personally I have nothing.
Your turn.

I once flew 10000 miles to surprise my ex-girlfriend for Valentines day before flying back two days later.
Would that count as romantic?

Only if she was your girlfriend at the time, otherwise it's just one of the creepiest things I've ever heard.

Having read the post back it wasn't the best choice of words.
She was my g/f at the time.
I like the premise of this thread, but my mind has taken a holiday today so I'll get back to on-topicness later :)
I'm pulling together as many (good) photos as I can to make a photo book of our first five years together for me and my boyfriend's 5-year dating anniversary in October. His aunt has a goddamn treasure trove of photos in her closet, I wish she would go through those so I can really get started on this thing.
Hmm.. done a lot of things that people could call 'romantic'. I once took a girlfreind through the city of Pittsburgh piggy back on my shoulders to a nice restaraunt. A few other things but I'd think the most thing that in my mind was romantic...
WARNInG: THERE IS MENTION OF SEXUALITY
Took a girlfreind on a 2 day camping trip into the mountains, the second night we hiked until we found an open field and chased fireflies until the sun set. We made love under a large rock which we carved our names on afterward. It makes me happy just to think moments like that one.

That is very sweet. And you didn't even mention that you considered sending $200 to a cute girl in Nigeria...that is romantic too, even if you are too smart to do it. <3 :D

Ehh.. the most romantic thing I've done is told a girl she won't have to see me again. It made her happy, I think. I can't be sure cause I haven't seen her since.
Both of you are very romantic but I'm wondering how you "make love under a large rock" without getting squashed?

Hey, I think this is a cool thread topic, but I think its really hard to tell if something is romantic if you're not one of the people involved. I'm not saying there aren't instances, like flying 10,000 miles somewhere, but I think most of the time its hard to see the significance of some things without being one of the people.
In the shadow of a large rock then?

So describe the things that matter to you. I picked the one I did because it was quite over the top, it doesn't mean that I don't appreciate the value of doing something simple like organising a few quite minutes together in the middle of a hectic week.

Underground secks.
The most romantic thing I did was bake some brownies, make some Peanutbutter and Jelly sandwiches and some hot chocolate and took my then girlfriend out for a nighttime autumn picknick on the shores of Lake Michigan.
Oh, she loves PB&J and hot chocolate, so it wasn't just because I was too lazy to make any fancier sandwiches. Plus it was pretty chilly, so hot drinks = good.

I can't say I've ever made some grand romantic gesture, I just do little things here and there, like calling my boyfriend before I go to bed just to say I love him, and hanging around Burger King for like a half hour after I've clocked out waiting for him to get a second of free time on drive-thru so I can say bye. I feel bad if I leave without saying "bye, love you".
Maybe I should just stop being romantic, people keep taking advantage of me for it.

To surprise him after work one day, I bought him some flowers and cooked his favorite dinner (tortellini). For desert, I bought these little mini-chocolate-kisses things that had caramel swirls in them (his favorite candy is caramel), and we played a game where we'd put kisses on all the places we wanted to kiss on the other person, and then ate the kisses off their body.
Okay, so it wasn't so much "romantic" as "wildly pornagraphic," but it's the best I can come up with.
Once upon a time, I did everything I was asked for and more. I spent ridiculous amounts of money on gifts, I put myself in danger, I had enormous amounts of details, and I was completely willing to throw away anything on request.
I was "in love" back then, a situation I do not want to be repeated again. Ever.
In any case, that tango night was that tango night.

My boyfriend sold his entire and very vast vynil record collection as well as most of his other possessions and emigrated from Canada to England to live with me after actually only meeting me in real life for a fortnight 4 months earlier (we had been talking on the phone and via the PC after meeting on NS)
He then took me on the Orient Express to Venice for my birthday, we ate a wonderful dinner on board in a railway siding in Paris, drank copious amounts of champagne and made love in two countries in one night, only to awake to find ourselves by lake Lucerne and then traveling down through the Alps to Italy where we took a gondola to our hotel, which was a former palace, and we had a sumptuous room with painted ceilings and silk covered walls....it was the MOST romantic thing ever....
Actually, my most effective and romantic act was a simple one - send one single rose to be delivered at the door. The right thing at the right time, and an extravagant gesture (are you aware of how much such deliveries cost?) considering the amount of cash I had at the time :)
Well, the only significant other in my life is my penis, and our relationship is purely hands on, so not much for romance.

i wrote a beautiful letter once to my then ex-flatmate expressing my undying love for her. i never sent it in the end and i'm glad i didn't. beautiful as it was it was probably more pathetic than romantic, and undoubtably inappropriate.
actually, everything i can think of that might be romantic is actually probably a bit creepy seeing as it's all unrequited. in my dreams i'm the most romantic person in the world though. *le sigh*

i know exactly (well, approximately, in my own way) what you mean. stupid mind. people say the liver is evil and deserves to be punished, i say the mind is evil. tomorrow i'm giving it a pasting with a mixture of absinthe and a poker night... i don't understand poker, but last time i drank absinthe i pulled (albeit unsatisfyingly) so it's really going to feel the burn :D.
actually i'm just doing it for fun, but it's inevitable that my brain is going to suffer :P :-D

I dont know.. I like to send Roses.. with a small poem..
a couple of times I did the Mariachis thing.. But its mostly the Roses delivered with a poem.
They all said they loved it.. but I am never sure.. I know I would not want to receive roses/poems.. but what do I know.. I am a Male.
You had enormous amounts of...details?
Guess it is a problem of translation.
A "detalle", (spanish for detail), is a gesture you make to please someone, but a gesture only someone with an intimate and special knowledge of that someone would do. For a ridiculous example, only few people know someone has a fascination with certain female popular character. Dressing as said character as a gesture to just please that someone would be considered a "detail".
In other words, a "detail", is that little thing that you have always wanted someone to do for you.

Dropped a rather happy, free life and moved 2000+ miles marry with the woman I love.
Let's see here:
* picked up a pizza from my gf's favorite pizza place and drove it 300 miles (salivating the whole time - it really smelled good) to have a surprise dinner with her during exam week
* drew stick figure cartoon of the same gf's and my relationship - it ended up being in 4" squares that covered a piece of butcher paper 3' high and 4' long (we had been dating for 5 years at that time)
* every year for V-Day, I buy flowers for all my single female friends. Not intended to be romantic, but I just think everyone should get flowers on V-Day. Thankfully, this year every single one of them was in a relationship - it was getting quite expensive ($500-600 a year).
I once serial dated women simply because they wanted to do something romantic...

I don't know. The things that thought where romantic where probably just cases of me trying (too) hard, and the little things I did without thinking about it so much where probably what struck my girlfriends as the most romantic. I'm just guessing, you're really have to ask them, but they aren't talking to me anymore...

Is that romantic, or just bloody decent of you?
Nonetheless, the answer is irrelevant. You put her happiness before yours.
Personally, I don't know. "Romantic gestures" on my part seem to be my trying too hard, and hence coming across as an arse. If anybody requires lessons in this art, I don't charge....:p

My girlfriend managed to arrange for an airline to have a message flash across the movie screen that it was my birthday, at which point the stewardesses came out with champagne and a cake.
I'd been utterly annoyed to be flying on my birthday on a long-haul trip and also feeling fairly alone for it.
The hardest thing was having another 7 hours to fly before I could ring her and squeal.
