So I'm going to go out in the sun. I put on some SPF 30, wait 15-30 mins and head out. I do my thing out in the sun, reapplying my sunblock every couple of hours. Then I come inside and notice that I have some new tan lines (or higher contrast on the existing ones).

It's not that I'm trying to be all gothy and pasty, it's that I'm trying to not have a horribly uneven skin tone or at least not incredibly stupid tan lines (farmer's tan, random tank top tans et c). Does anyone else have this problem?

Yes. I'm very light skinned. You wouldn't be able tell I was hispanic under most circumstances. But I tan very deeply very easily. Which is fine, but I look double goofy when running around naked with a pasty white butt.

That's why I make sure to get plenty of sun naked. Never invite me to a barbecure. :)

Yep. I try to stay out of the sun as far as possible. Living in Ireland does help...

No. I am brown. My default setting is "tanner than you'll ever be" :D

I dunno, there was one time when I was 12 or so when I was out at the beech all day and I'd forgotten to apply sunblock and when I came back to school the next day everyone thought that I'd used self tanner because my shoulders were brown.

There was also the time in highschool when I compared arms with one of my friends who is brown and it turns out that I was the darker one.

The higher you go, the less of a difference you will be able to notice.

As far as I can tell, my skin doesn't react to the sun. It neither burns nor tans.

I only don't like it because I'm never outside just to tan so I don't dress appropriately and I end up with hideous tan lines that show when I'm wearing other clothes.

Well, plus the whole not wanting skin cancer thing.

I went out today in SPF50 put it on, waited the full 15 minutes the bottle says, worked in the yard for no more than 30 minutes, came in, took a shower....and OUCH! guess who is sunburned?

Perhaps I should have bought the 50? A factor of 30 means that it should take 30 times longer to tan (equally much) than you would without it. So 50 won't be a large improvement over 30 either; you'd get slightly over half as tan in comparison, but probably still noticable.

I don't tan, I burn. Then I peel. Then when the burn is fading it looks a bit like a tan for a little while.

Well, you could just go outside completely nude. That would solve your problems quite easily.

Apparently the major problem with sun cream is that people don't apply it thickly enough. I can't remember exactly how much you should put on, but it's a hell of a lot more than you'd expect. If you do apply it properly, then factor 15 is meant to be enough in even the strongest sun.

Well, I wasn't really suggesting the nudity from the standpoint of perversion as the other men were. I was suggesting it because it's the most practical method available to her. By being nude she eliminates the tan lines and does not have to worry about purchasing sun lotion. To limit the effects of the sun, just spend only, say, fifteen minutes outside. Problem is thusly solved.

As for Dakini, I honestly do not know her opinions about nudity, and if I knew she were not comfortable with the idea, I would not suggest it. Due to my ignorance on the subject, I freely suggest it as it is a practical method of solving her problem.

Well, if anything I'll just find a sunny day and cover everywhere that's already tanned with sunblock and sit outside in my bikini. I'll end up with stupid triangular tan lines, but at least they wont' be visible when I wear tanktops.

I don't hate nudity, I'm fine if someone else wants to do it.

I also don't hate being naked myself, I just don't like the idea of being naked in public. I actually quite like being naked on my own or when in the company of a man I deem special enough to see me wearing my birthday suit.

I re-iterate my suggestion. Get tanned up in a bikini or something. You'll have tan lines, but with any luck they'll be lines that'll be covered anyway.

Well, I don't like people who dislike other people on the basis of one physical criterion especially one they have little or no control over.

I can't help tanning easily without sheltering myself away in the shade all day, which would make it somewhat impossible to get to and from work (I bike) as well as cut down on my fun (I wouldn't be able to play soccer :( )

Also, perhaps you could do something like a) be a better person than those who are passing judgement on others or b) at least not pass judgement on women who don't go about passing judgement on men and always, always c) never generalize Dakini with other women, it doesn't tend to work.

I haven't had any of my moles removed, they just stay there and stay the same.

However, I don't think you should be removing your moles on your own, you should probably be seeing a doctor who can look at them first and determine if they are, say, cancerous or not.

You think farmer's tans are something to be ashamed of? What's wrong with you, I impress people with my farmer's tan all the time, and the reactions get better and better.

It's not because I tan wierd, actually, I don't even know what, "tanning wierd or unevenly" is. All I know is that I havn't had my shirt off except to shower in... shall I say, 5 years?

You should really consider moving to a colder place--or at least drier--like, say, Alaska. Then you won't have to deal with as much sun.

ent you got indian skin tone? i mean i'm ginger and i only go red. but i spend a lot of time in the sun. and i go red-tanned after a while. like i'm burned but with a hint of brownness in there. but i thought you was of south asian decent so you should have no problem with getting an aweomsome colour in the sun. i don't know enough thoug so feel free to tear that up eh.
