So, I've been working at this crappy doughnut shop for the past month and a half or so and I've gotten sick of it. Today a supervisor yelled at me for something a customer did because she was having a bad day... she yelled at me for about five minutes... just behind the counter... and then stopped because the manager told her to only to resume a couple minutes later.

Yeah... so how should I quit? The honourable note with "I'm out of here in two weeks" or should I just tell them to go get bent?

Let your manager know that you're quiting because of the supervisor. Lay it on thick, too.

EDIT: OR, or...show up early and replace the oil you usually use with cannaoil. It might be the best day of business they've ever had, though...

Unless it's in Viet-Namese, they probably won't understand anything beyond the word "quit." :p

Not really, but I always wanted to be a baker and applied at a bunch of doughnut shops when I was younger. I don't think the Viet-Namese liked me. I ended up working at a white-owned bakery.

Anyway, it might help to have a good reference in the future, so you may want to be diplomatic. ;)

I would tell them to go fuck themselves the morning before your shift. Frankly, how much could their reference matter?:)

Umm... there's only like one person who works there who isn't white and she had her first day today.

But yeah, I really think I'm just going to leave a polite note and say that I'll cover the shifts they assigned this upcoming week, but that I'd prefer it if they didn't schedule me the next week (it will be a one week notice... but I haven't even been working there for two months...)

You're really not going to get that much of a reference from a job you where only at for a month and half, so I wouldn't worry too much about that.

Probably not much, but I still need some sort of job for the remainder of the summer and I don't know how much people check up on these sorts of things if I quit rudely. I guess I could tell them that the working conditions were unbearable and they kept giving me awful hours (i.e. one day I worked 3-11pm and the next I started at 6:30... i.e. I didn't get home until midnight and I had to leave the next morning at 5:30...)

Plus I didn't get direct deposit set up so I have to go in and collect my last cheque.

Must be a regional thing. I love to see foreigners coming here with entrepreneurial spirit, but it can be trouble getting work at a Mom & Pop here. :p

It can't hurt, though, either. I just got home from a job interview ten minutes ago, and they seemed more interested in my old retail and bakery experience than my more recent office work, for whatever reason. :p

My two cents--don't quit till you have another job in hand, but then leave without notice, and when you do, let your boss know that the supervisor was abusive.

Get really really high and go to work. You'll probably find the day easier, if not you won't have to make up your mind about this whole thing: you'll end up quitting peacefully after taking for an hour about what a dick the supervisor is, your dog, and ice cream with sprinkles.

Also, I do not know about your province but in BC your employer has to give you 10 hours between shifts in BC.

I don't think it will be too hard finding a new job. There are a lot of places that are hiring, I even found a list of places that are hiring students for summer work.. so that could work out nicely.

Ok, three months of getting up at 4 am and I will die. I am totally not a morning person. When I was hired here, they promised me mon-fri, 9-5, then they took that shift away from me because there was someone else who wanted it and this other person was better friends with management prior to being hired (and she also sucks at the job much worse than I do). They scheduled me stupidly early in the morning and I simply can't take it anymore... I'm not sucking it up for 3 months, they can go fuck themselves.

youve missed your chance of quitting in righteous indignation of being screamed at by management.

now you must either

give notice (ewww)

wait until the supervisor yells at you again for no good reason and quit on the spot in the middle of the tirade

or never go in again. no call, no explanation, just go pick up your check on whatever day it will be there.

either do it the "right" way or go out in a way that will piss them off the most.

Well, she let me sit in the back for a minute to calm down...If the boss knows but won't do anything about the supervisor, then you don't owe the boss anything. But I've never thought it was a good idea to quit one job without another ready to go. But don't feel bad about not giving any notice under these circumstances.

Quit, but before you do you should steal shit. Not little shit either like donuts or something. Take something big, like a cash register. Alternatively you could just stop showing up and when the dickhead supervisor calls you because you didn't show up for your shift tell him to go fuck himself.

I suggest taking the best long-term route. Just leave a two-weeks notice. You may need to swallow you anger, but it's for the best.

Then, on the back of the note, write "Up yours, Cheech" in invisible ink.

then the boss might actually be sympathetic. Give your boss 2 weeks, but you can ask her to not let anyone know. you can also tell her why you're quitting. (you can't keep getting up at 3:30 in the morn or whatnot.)

be polite, no sense quitting in a rage.

oh and secure a job before quitting.

Yeah, the store owners are nice enough. But when it comes to other things everyone sorta likes to play "blame it on the trainee" when it's convenient.

I don't think I'm going to give the full two weeks notice, I think I'm going to offer to come in for the two shifts they gave me this week and ask that they not schedule me at all next week. Though even then I think I want to call in sick for one shift since it not only starts at 5:30, but it's at the location I don't like. The other shift is at a different store with people I sorta like.
