Kirov vs. Ticonderoga

Two scenarios, first one is just a Kirov-class battlecruiser vs. Ticonderoga-class cruiser, in the middle of the Pacific, just outside weapons range. Objective is to cripple the other ship to where it cannot fight anymore, complete destruction is optional.

Second is a Kirov vs. it's weight in Ticos (1 vs 3), same setting, same objectives.

All ships are at optimal operating standards, with fresh experienced crews and full armaments.

Damn, forgot to make it political and attract all the rabid posters.

*ahem* Obviously the Ticonderoga will win, because it is an American ship and all American ships are practically invulnurable!

Are nukes allowed? Not sure about the American missiles, but Russian anti-shipping missiles can carry tactical nukes. I think they were meant to take out US carrier battle groups.

Either way, I think the Ticonderogas have been used in practice and have had updates to electronics, radar and support systems. The Kirov class is basically a ship from the 80s and the Russians can't afford to actually run them.

No nukes, and consider both ships updated with modern equipment, though I thought the Russians had already done that with at least one of their Kirovs.

I'm not sure it's best placed here - I've heard there's other boards on NS where you can 'role play'. Seek and ye shall find.

For myself, I would aim to stay out of range using paddles and hope the other ship ran out of petrol, then I would pounce.

Ticonderoga (especially the ones still in service with VLS) win both. The Kirov would probably fire its missiles at a longer range, but the Tico would have at least 3x as many SMs as the Kirov has SSMs. The Tico would destroy all the incoming missiles and then be able to fire missiles at the Kirov, which wouldn't be able to defend itself as well as the US Navy's Tico.

The Tico just has a superior RADAR system and computer systems. It wouldn't be fair for the Kirov.

If the Tico in question has TASMs aboard, then its even more in favor of the Tico as the TASM can probably outrange the SSMs carried by a Kirov.

Ticonderoga class ships have far better defensive measures than do the Kirovs.

I always figure on what bait your using. Make sure the bait is nice and shiny and cannot be resisted. That bait your using just seems meh to me. I would try something else. It doesn't seem to be working just yet. Maybe it's not time to feed but I would think it's the bait your using.;)

The two ships don't even serve the same role in their respective navies. The Ticonderoga is an AA cruiser; the Kirov is built for ASuW warfare.

The Kirov wins in a one-on-one showdown no contest. It gets killed if it faces three Ticonderogas only because of the numbers.

It's not a very good comparison battle, maybe the Kirov 1 on 1 with a Alaska-class would be more appropriate, and close too. It's like an elephant versus a whale, their both ships designed for different purposes. Both would just sit out of armament range and fire missiles, but the Tico would have to watch out for those 14 SS-N-14 Silex missiles and ASW/ASuW topedoes if I remember correctly, plus the Kirov has hundreds of medium range SAM missiles for defense. I don't know much about the Tico, (ill read the wiki in a sec) but I imagine the battle would just be missile spam at long range, the Kirov also has nice short range rockets and missileguns, but I doubt it would come to that.
