Not in the fire-breathing sense, but I do think there are likely be some undiscovered giant lizards and other organisms that do exist and which gave birth to many of the legends of dragons around the world. For example, the Loch Ness Monster or similar unexplained phenomena.

And some dragons were in fact just crocodiles...

Considering the story this morning about a dragon eating a kid I'd say yes. Nasty buggers too.

One of my sister's friends did not believe in penguins until high school.

But anyway, back on topic, I am sure that something must have given rise to all the tales of dragons. For all I know they may the result of a greatly exaggerated salamander story, though.

I recall reading that some supposed griffon bones turned out to be dinosaur fossils. Perhaps the same sort of thing occured with dragons.

To many accounts of dragons in totally unrelated cultures make it unlikely that there was no basis for the idea of something like a Dragon. Perhaps Dinosaurs existed into the the time of the first humans or something like that, who knows.

I believe:-

- if you've never had an AIDS scare, you've never truly lived.

- tattoos are never not a good idea, espacially if you are drunk.

- you can do anything you put your mind to, unless its hard, in which case, you shouldn't even try. Who needs all that hassle?

- the children are our future, which is why we should kill them allbefore they destroy it.

- I'd like to teach the world to sing in perfect harmony, the song would be "Gimmee That Nutt" by Eazy-E.

- there is no 2I2 in team, which is why I propose changing the spelling to t-e-i-m-e.

- I'm resonsible for my own life. Unless it end up badly, then its someone else's fault.

- it's better to have loved and lost than to have been beaten with a tire iron by some derranged homeless guy.

But trust me on the sunscreen…

On topic, I think dragons were just dinosaur bones that people saw and figured "it must be still alive, since we can clearly see its bones sitting here." I mean, even today dragons are basically land dinosaurs that can fly.

"Well, I believe in the soul, the cock, the pussy, the small of a woman's back, the hanging curve ball, high fiber, good scotch, that the novels of Susan Sontag are self-indulgent, overrated crap. I believe Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone. I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing Astroturf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, soft, wet kisses that last three days."

Yes, I believe that Komodo dragons exist, obviously.

As for the mythical fire-breathing things, no, of course not. The dragon as typically depicted is physically impossible. Cool, but impossible. :)

What have I just been saying?

You do know that most dragons were simply people mistaking other animals and remains for dragons. For instance, the Oarfish is strikingly similar to chinese dragons, fossils of dinosaurs are easy to see how they could be mistaken, and other animals.

What you likely saw, as stated before, was a "fake" documentary put out by the Science Channel. As in, not real.

Because mythical dragons don't exist. That should be obvious.

I hold out for the possibility of dragons to the same degree that I hold out for the possibility of Unicorns, extraterrestrial visitors to earth, and God. As in, until I see one I will go on assuming that they do not exist.

With that said, dragons are incredibly awesome, and I wish they did exist. Only in a variety that was concerned with more than making me into a meal.
