Who's your favorite 2nd tier Democratic candidate?

I was watching the Democratic Presidential debate last night, and was pleasantly surprised to see how many more candidates there were than Obama, Clinton, and Edwards. I was even less surprised (though no less amused), at how pathetic these people were. None of them will ever win the Democratic nomination, and in the case of a few of them, more than a thousand total votes. So vote for whom you think is wackiest, funniest, or just plain sad.

Mike Gravel. People call him wacky, but I have nothing but respect for the man who released the Pentagon Papers.

Gravel. Biden is too Conservative, Richardson is unreliable, Kucinich is, and always has been a joke. However, Mike Gravel is great, in a grumpy-old-uncle kind of way. He may be a bit kooky, but he speaks truth to power, and we need some of that now and again.

Wow, solid choice; won't make it. He's too progressive for the current state of affairs in America.

Of the ones mentioned there, I like Chris Dodd's message the most. Gravel is amusing in the same way Perot was--he sounds okay in position papers, and then he opens his mouth and you wonder what the hell next is going to come out.

Too bad. He'd probably help us a lot.

Maybe a Dodd/Gravel or Gravel/Dodd ticket then... so long as Dodd stays away from our guns we'll all be alright.

He sounds like he has a solid head on his shoulders and some real good ideas. This is the first time I've actually seen an American politician with a good idea of what works.

He's the perfect candidate if he ran in Canada. ;)

EDIT - I'm just looking at the other candidates and where they stand. It's a good website.

He's actually born of French Canadian parents. But I find him a long shot, and far too abrasive. His style reminds me a bit of George Wallace, and he made a comment last night calling Iraq "the Democrat's war". Agree with that or not, that does not play well to the base.

He's also well into his 70s, and post-Reagan, age is a major factor.

Not so much these days, though. McCain will be 72 if he becomes president, and he seems to have a good chance so far.

McCain's candidacy has been floundering for months now. He's got national support because he has a rep, but the longer the primaries go, the less chance he has. You think Fred Thompson would be getting in and Newt Gingrich would be talking about it if they were scared of McCain?

I'm still hoping for Al Gore. Not much chance but better that the other 20 or so.

At the very least the US needs a social democrat in the White House, anything less would be the same old.

No. No, we don't. What we need is a solid, common sense progressive who can change the political dialogue away from the right-wing swing we're on and build a strong, sustainable progressive majority. We aren't a European country, and our political system doesn't deal well with broad ideological swings in short periods of time.

Agreed...of all candidates and potential candidates from both parties, Gore is the only one who I might actually support at this point.
