Harper Adminstration: Bad for the Environment

It's bad enough that the Bush Administration refuses to commit to emission reduction targets on the grounds that China and India are being obstinate about it. Now Canada is on board with this and this just isn't going to work out.
I live in the largest Canadian city and I am frankly sick of all the high-emission vehicles that idle during the day. I would like to see vehicles that emit way less in the way of toxic emissions.
We need common goals. We can't have people making their own because then those who make more ambitious goals will bet screwed over by those who aren't as strident in their choices.
Baird echoes U.S. on climate deal (http://www.thestar.com/News/article/221043)
That and I'm so sick of this administration kissing the ass of the American government.

That article was disappointing. I thought you Canadians had more sense than those of us south of the border. While I agree with the idea of getting China and India to lower their emissions, I find this country's attitude of "they don't have to, so we won't either" just a bit childish. It's disheartening to see one of your politicians playing the same game.

It's June, 2007. Why is Stephen Harper still sitting in the PMO and making us look like frickin' idiots in front of the rest of the planet?
Sheesh. Somebody topple this muthafuckin' minority government already.

Aren't the NDP/Libs pushing legislation through Parliament to force his minority government to adhere to Kyoto targets?

I would actually prefer to vote for Duceppe, but the Bloc doesn't run in Ontario so my vote goes to Layton & the NDP.

I know. I find it quite revolting that they can't think for themselves nor do they have the balls to say, "well, neither works but what about this". I find they are too willing to act like the Republicans and some Democrats.
I hate how the Canadian government ties its commitments to the actions of other nations instead of wanting to lead by example.

We would like to... but the opposition doesn't have the money to run the same type of sleazy campaign that the Conservatives. Though I suspect they're waiting for the Conservatives to do something really stupid.
Dion advised to set the stage for a fall election (http://www.thestar.com/News/article/221169) - mind you, it's just an opinion piece but still something worth reading.

They are trying but the Conservatives are being obstinate about the whole issue. They want a "Canadian" plan but the plan is weak at best and is strongly American and not "Canadian" like the Conservatives "promised" in the last election.

The obstinacy of Mr. Harper's conservatives is the one thing working in Mr. Dion's favour. I like to think of it as their very own pair of cement overshoes.
Let's have us a pool party!

They might want it, but without a Parliamentary majority, they won't get it. The Liberals and the NDP should push a comprehensive plan for climate change through Parliament, and if the Conservatives don't stick to it afterwards, they have every right to call a motion of no confidence. Alberta can't complain (although I'm sure they will) though, they export most of their oil to America anyway, I think.

No! Wait until October/November. That way I can vote in my old BC riding where the NDP stands a chance of winning. The riding I am in now was 20,000-4,000-4,000 for the conservatives, where the riding I'll be in this fall was 20,000-18,000-10,000.

He's got more than a pair of cement shoes with O'Connor, Day and Baird hangin' on him like a cheap $5 suit.
