The Art of the Car Chase

Cannot think of a name

This is really just yet another 'best' thread, I just didn't want to title it that way.

Otherwise, all the normal things apply. So what is it?

The 7 Ups (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5i6xfVek5Yg)?
That ending will leave a mark.

Bullitt (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=36MFh4of6lE)?
The classic. Count the number of hubcaps that come off that Charger.

Ronin (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQa-RSSRrVM) second car chase?

Ronin (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I5ZDj31d1qA&mode=related&search=) first car chase?

Italian (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uVHbrOzTvsw) Job (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vVuv3qHHaqA&mode=related&search=), original?
The self preservation society?

The Blues Brothers (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=etMjjdxDyAw), final chase?
Hit it.

Blues Brothers (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-uPP9A9o7dQ&mode=related&search=), mall chase?
Nice shops here.

The French Connection (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WqRaLUN98aY)?
Ever pick your toes in Pokipsee?

Gone (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WXBiSis1Oh8) in (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qj5Xd7iMieo&mode=related&search=) 60 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gwg7vyZaeQ0&mode=related&search=) Seconds (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O4uBf0piBGw&mode=related&search=)?
Original. Looooong.

Gone in 60 Seconds (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u4WtIZlBpDs&mode=related&search=) the remake?

The Bourne Identity (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dv9BEwvoDoY)?
More Minis...

The Bourne Supremacy (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tCHzmKplMi0&mode=related&search=)?
I hadn't actually seen this one.

Take your pick.

The Italian Job for me, mainly for the humour in it, but the clips you've got start after some of the best parts.

Yeah, I was bummed about that but the search was getting long. It did turn up a Lego version, though. So it was worth it.

Here are some honorable mentions or things just too hard to include-

Dirty Mary Crazy Larry (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=To7MJB83kZI&NR=1)
Never even heard of that one. Didn't see that ending coming...

Le Marginal (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ug5YVlnumJ0&NR=1) French car chase.

German style (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rcEhgliILqI&NR=1)

More Frenchies (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CpbG2aQZfgE&mode=related&search=)

A montage (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vy_GtEpQ0Ao&mode=related&search=) with a too long opening and irritating music.

Vanishing Point (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vGDOiJ_trmE) (there are several parts, you can see them), should have been on the poll.

Blues Brothers had two great chases.

The first one where they drove through the Dixie Square Mall (abandoned since 1977) in Harvey, IL. The mall had been abandoned for a few years by the time they started filming. They put a bunch of fake storefronts in there for the filming. Featured were some of Chicago's most iconic stores such as Jewel. It has now been sitting abandoned for thirty years along Dixie Highway. I know some people who have been there urban exploring. They claimed that there is a freaking forest growing inside the mall. It was supposed to have been torn down a decade ago, but it is still standing. I wouldn't go there though. It's supposed to be pretty dangerous.

The second chase went through the city. I love the scenes along Lower Wacker Drive and can name most of the streets they are on during the chase scene. My Dad was downtown when they were filming the end of the chase scene. He saw the broken up Blue's Mobile next to the Picasso.

i hadn't seen many of those before, and for some reason i don't remember the second ronin one at all despite having seen the film twice. however, i can't bring myself to not vote for the blues brothers. that's my favourite film.

edit: just noticed the other links, i'll have to come back and watch them tomorrow.

It's 106 miles to Chicago, we've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses. Enough said.

It may be too much with all the links. Even I got tired of watching car chases at a point. It was...a weird place to be...

Though I do encourage you to check out the 7-Ups one, conesiours (whatever, Firefox spell check failed, Google failed, even Answers.com failed...that's the way it's spelled now) consider it on par or even above in some cases the True King, Bullitt.

Ok, how could've you forgotten Smokey and the Bandit? I mean comon, that movie is nothing but car chases! I am very disappointed in your thread and poll Cannot think of a name.

For the same reason I didn't actually include Vanishing Point, and you mentioned it, it's one long car chase.

And ultimately, I kinda don't like it as much. The movies fine, but in the pantheon of car chases, just not as much. So I chose not to include it. But I did think about it.

I should have guessed that it'd be a runaway victory for The Blues Brothers, but you guys should really check out The 7 Ups, it's pretty good.

I voted Ronin, because it's more hardcore, realistic stuff. Plus, its in europe and with Audis! I do love that movie...

Bulitt.

Ronin‘s two chases are up there as well, especially the second one, and the Blues Brothers’ chase is great (I love the massive pile-up).

But Bulitt's chase just kicks ass.

And it's got the tastiest soundtrack.

It does have that 'not American muscle cars' thing going on. Even that French film had a 'Stang in it.

I couldn't agree more, I love that soundtrack...

I’m sure the funk helps Steve McQueen.

Oooooh, almost forgot: there’s got to be an honourable mention for Taxi and Taxi 2 (the French original, not the shit, shit, shit American bastardisation).

Any film that involves an ordinary taxi morphing into an insane speed-machine at the press of a button, and/or a car freefalling out of a plane, gets my vote.

Lol that final one from Blues Brothers was hilarious, I hadn't seen it before.

Bullitt and Ronin win it for me though in terms of sheer driving skill and excitement.

Hehe, when I saw the thread title I thought "nothing beats the hubcap-chase!".

Glad you included it. :p That's my vote. (I have nothing against http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y223/GermanNightmare/BluesBrothers.gif)

Aaaaah! So many awesome car chases! I don't think I'll be able to choose.

Ronin is obviously hot because it's hardcore and awesome.
Bullitt is frankly immense, with a badass explosion at the end.
The 7 Ups was pretty cool, with an immense, and painful ending.
The Italian Job is and always has been brilliant, amusing and insane.
The Blues Brothers is the most mental thing since sliced bread.

I honestly don't think I can choose. They're all too immense.

I love car chases :D

The worst is in The Transporter 2, shame because the chase at the beginning of the first film was pretty good.

I haven't seen it, but for worst I'll probably go with Bad Boys. They managed to pit a 427 Cobra against a Porsche 930 and all they did was a dead drag race to a one-car opening at the end of a runway. Never mind that either cars brakes are immense enough to claw that car down to 'lane changing speed' pretty quickly so that if you 'lost' there still isn't any reason you have to smash into the concrete, what kind of chase is straight all the way?

The Nice chase in Ronin, I guess. Although Bullitt and the Seven Ups have a class that Ronin doesn't. Like a classic car instead of a Zonda.

I didn't expect the Bullitt chase to be trailing so far behind, beating out only the non-voted for and Gone in 60 Seconds remake (should have made the poll public...)

T2 I'll give you. T3, not so much.

Can I have Mad Max?

The Last of the V8 Interceptors against the Toe Cutter's biker gang?
One of the only two car chases I was shown in film school.

"You want out of this parking lot? Okay." That literally just happened on AMC, the mall chase just began.

Quality.
