Before this thread gets locked...

I'd say Iran. They have long been known to be a terror supporter, and have contributed to regional instability in the past and present. Not too long ago, Iran was a strict toltalitarian theocracy, an utter perversion of Shi'a Islam.
Today, it's less so, and Persians can breathe somewhat easier. But it's no less dangerous, to either itself or the world. It has the region's strongest military, and weilds influence both in the Middle East and Central Asia. It's president, a quasi-elected populist, is a fanatic intent on growing Iran's power. It's economy is doing reasonably well now, spurred by high oil prices and Chinese investment. And of course, it has a very long list of people it hates, a list that may shrink once they get the bomb.
The worst part, however, is that would be just as dangerous without the regime. Any US or international intervention would make the Iraq mess look like a birthday party.

Russia's more of a threat than Iran. Russian actually want to regain a position of world dominance, while Iranians are being brought to arms through fear of the US attacking.

no worries there mate,we,the us will just bomb them into the stoneage...no attack needed.
we will not do the whole nation building thing with iran, like we are trying in iraq, which i suspect is why we are doing it.we will just obliterate irans infrastructure, depopulate the cities with a bombing campaign, and then sit back and watch russia scramble to help them.

The whole point is the is no fucking reason to be worried about Iran. They are told to be worried shitless about the US attacking, and are. So they respond by building arms to protect themselves, with the government using a vague threats about an outside attack from a terrorist nation to justify. The government takes on a protector angle to wins elections, and builds arms to support the image. This unnerves the US who responds by being more aggressive, and threatening hostility, which does nothing but supports the administration's claims and increases their support. This pisses of the US, which worries the Iranians who fake tough, which worries USians about an attack....

1. North Korea
2. Israel
3. Pakistan

All "Nuclear" states, for one.

North Korea's got enough artillery pointed at Seoul that they don't really need nukes. I don't know of any other nation with the stones to do that to one of the largest cities in the world and expect everyone around them to make nice.

Things won't be pretty when Dear Leader dies either.

Israel scares me not in and of itself, but any incident between Israel and another entity, national or otherwise, has the capacity to spin out of control if one party overreacts. Israel has the power to overreact in a capacity that it's adversaries currently do not, so it gets singled out.

Pakistan is hardly a bastion of political stability, a hotbed of Islamic extremism, and has a long-standing rivalry with another nuclear state, India. It's held together through strong-arm dictatorship. There is great potential for a spiraling cycle of violence through any number of causes in that nation.

All the other nuclear states are tied for fourth place.

Followed by Switzerland in fifth. :p

It is not a nation that is the World's biggest threat... it is us!
I quote:

"I’d like to share a revelation that I’ve had, during my time here. It came to me when I tried to classify your species and I realized that you aren’t actually mammals. Every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with its surrounding environment, but you humans do not. You move to an area and you multiply, and multiply until every natural resource is consumed. The only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet."

Don't you just love Agent Smith?

I won't argue with invisible, depending on how you define it.

Invincible? I think not.
Just leave them for long enough without food and they'll evaporate.

Completely undetectable?
Someone doesn't understand enough physics...

In answer to the OP:
Nation?
The UK.
I mean, what if we decide to stop allowing the rest of the world to watch our TV shows which are, let me say, the best of the best? It'd be plunged into chaos!

Seriously, though: right now it'd be China, followed by the USA.
China's got problems of its own but right now, right at this moment in time, it's a combination of dictators, aggression and power.
The USA's more powerful in theory, but it's less likely to have its populace supporting them in a war and the government can be voted down.

actually it would seem to me, that a kind of corporate mafia, which has usurped and made nearly irrellivant virtually all nations, and certainly the most powerful, the u.s. of course included and at the top of the list, an automaticly 'profit' seeking 'doomsday machine' with no one in control and no off switch, seems to be the biggest threat to both humanity and all life on earth.

certainly americas long standing forign, and appearently now even domestic, policy, of demonizing everything that refuses to kiss the ass of little green pieces of paper has helped to create a market for it and facilitate its existence.

the child very much appears to have consumed the parent, and as to how reversable this situation may yet be, remains to be seen.

its not even all of capitolism i'm singling out here, but that particularly defacto vicions circumstance having total disreguard for even human or any other sort of well being, feeding and bennifiting only its own, entirely abstract expension and perpetuation.

some may argue that it isn't even legitimately capitolism at all. i've heard that argument to. far be it from me to attempt to clearify terms that no attempt to do so can diminish the ambiguity with which they are commonly used.

but so much abstract persuit of pseudo-gain as been prioritised ahead of the kind of world we all have to live in, that doing so has indeed become a real and present danger to all of life, the very web of life, itself.

the method of our mutual, species wide self destruction is more likely to come in the form of environmental 'melt down' that has already become visible in its proccess, then the threat of massively distructive warefare, though we may continue to get wars as well.

it is a proccess that IS, the proccess itself that is, very much reversable, or at least the factors contributing to it are.

the hour is very much advanced in this proccess of our mutual self destruction. more so then many realize. but it IS our own doing, and not the wrath of some alienated diety.

the doing of priorities ill thought out, if considered at all. and the motivations they collectively create.

it is a good starting point to want to avoid causing suffering; the all you need is love bit. but of course that isn't ALL we need. we must also learn how to actually do so. not just the arbitrary cookbook assumptions of one belief or another.

so to synopsize: which nation is the biggest threat, isn't one nation, or even a nation as such at all. nor is this real threat of a nature that can be addressed militarily.

there is a suite of 'simple solutions', but no amount of killing and dieing are any part of any of them.

the challenge is one of cultural values, and of engineering tecnologies, and the infrastructure enabled by those tecnologies, to be harmoniously compatable with nature's cycles of renewal, upon which all life, our own included, utterly depends.

There is no single nation that constitutes the world's biggest threat. But one thing is for certain, all failed states consistute a "Wheel of Instability" that threatens their neighbours, their regions, and the world at large. I just finished reading 3 Niall Ferguson books. He seems to believe the answer to this problem is for the US to colonise failed nations. Religious Christians believe the answer to this problem is God's Kingdom and the second coming of the Messiah. Fanatical muslims believe the answer is world-wide Ummah. I'm going back into the bomb shelter in my backyard until its safe to come out again.

North Korea

Reasons: A rogue nation who occasionally threatens Sotuh Korea and Japan with pretty much unprovoked violence who is allied with the largest country in the world by population (China). Ruled by an egomaniac of a dictator who seems to want to do nothing but try and cause trouble. They keep standing on one side of the DMZ and thumbing thier noses at the soldiers stationed to defend against incursion. The biggest reason they are most dangerous is because if they actually make due with these threats they would start a war that would be garanteed to draw the US and China in and create the potential for another world war.

Russia has all the nukes that were stationed in the the other soviet countries.

It has the most nukes but most of those have had poor maintenance, along with the delivery systems. The newer ICBM being tested is intended to replace almost all of the previous missiles.

The U.S, whilst having lesser amounts, have actually had constant maintenance and upgrading of their systems.
