Anyone know any good UK job websites? I'm happy to consider other stuff (except cafes / pressure selling) but I'd like to work in a cinema, theatre, or library.

I've had bugger-all luck with recruitment agencies and now and hate them with a passion. They seemed to be the only "people" to advertise on any of the sites I looked at (monster.co.uk et al).
'Course, I'm shit getting jobs full stop, so it might've just been me being cack. The cunts could call you back to tell you you failed the interview rather than leaving you hanging on forever, though. It would hardly bankrupt them. Wankers. "Computer Futures" were the worst for this. Yeah, it's not anything to do with theatre, and I'm ranting, but hopefully Google or someone will pick this up and lose them some business, and they'll all lose their jobs and starve to death in the gutter, being kicked and spat on by tramps. Bitter? Moi? Yes. Very.

you'll work where you can just like everyone else. check you're local newspapers, they'll usually have a section in the back for jobs at least one day a week. besides that, walk around you're local town looking in shop windows and the like for recruitment posters. i'm assuming you're still a child so that'll do you, real job markets offer jobs for adults and if you were an adult you'd know about them already.

If you are in IT and looking at contracting here is a good resource site - www.contractoruk.com hood msg board but they give even shorter shrift to n00bs who don't read the site first.
All of the major agencies are like that with regard to calling you back the like....
Even more fun is when they call you about a job and then ask you for references before you even have a job spec...a - there is no job b - they are calling your boss to see if they can place anyone in your old company.
I call agents pimps because that what they are. I have found no UK IT recruitment consultant who had/has an iota of honesty. /rant

That or the job centre....looking at signs in shops or local businesses...or writing to them...depends what you want. Simple fact is that if you want a career as a waiter you will need to start from the bottom...its not cost effective for an employer to advertise low paying jobs that have a high turn over.

They just felt like they really didn't care, that they were only throwing people at any jobs they might, possibly fit, just to get commission. They never called you back if you didn't get the job (dunno if they bothered if you did), they never seemed to bother themselves to actually read the CV you had on file with them...
I was applying for full-time permanent jobs.
If they've got a job you might like you could try for it (although after a while I stopped as a matter of principle), but I wouldn't tell them anything they don't absolutely need to know. And no doubt, as Rubiconic Crossings said, they're no worse than any other employment agent, but they were the ones I particularly remember getting on my goat.

you'll work where you can just like everyone else.
No, I won't. How about you stop making dumb assumptions?
I will not work in a place that conflicts with my ethics, or where any illness/condition I have makes working there bad for the employer/customers. If I work somewhere that conflicts with my efforts, then I'm certain to NOT appear as though I'm enjoying the job which is not good for staff morale and not good for the employer - in short, I'm not going to agree to be paid money for something which I'm not doing properly, just so I've got a bit of cash in my pocket. I'm also not going to support things I consider to be sick just so I've got a bit of cash in my pocket too - there are more important things than money.
check you're local newspapers, they'll usually have a section in the back for jobs at least one day a week. besides that, walk around you're local town looking in shop windows and the like for recruitment posters. i'm assuming you're still a child so that'll do you, real job markets offer jobs for adults and if you were an adult you'd know about them already.
Serious question: Are you like 13? With your blind assumption and random attack on me, whilst knowing little about me (all the posts on here equal about 0.5% of me), you seem to figure I've not bothered searching for jobs and am a child. Seriously, and this isn't intended as an attack, with that kind of attitude you seriously need to grow up. If you are 13 though, fair enough :)

To be honest, Multiland; you don't get the choice.
Eventually you'll be forced to work somewhere, and the best you can do is hope you don't hate it too much.
Almost everybody hates their job. Why do you think the lottery's so popular? A one-in-fourteen-million chance of never having to work again is usually worth a quid.
You don't get to choose your employers' ethics or working practices. You don't get to choose a job that makes you feel happy. You get a job, eventually, anywhere you can, and then you hope you get lucky somehow and become rich enough to retire, or that Lancelot picks your six balls.
That's all there is to it.

then you've either got a very naive view of how the employment market works or you don't really need the money.

1. I'm well over 18
2. You deliberately called me a child for no good reason. That was an attack on me. I never said I was particularly bothered by such an example of immaturity, I just said it was an attack

No, I'm saying that I'd be so crap at the job my "effort" (or lack of it) due to being so depressed about working for such a company would not be worth paying for - so it would be pointless starting the job in the first place.

By the way, I heard a large part of job vacancies remain unpublished. It's a matter of networking, whether you like it or not.
You could also do an entry level job, suck it up for a few years and work your way up.

Oh, I applied for entry-level jobs all right. And jobs in supermarkets, anything really, for seventeen months.
Eventually I got one because a friend's relatives were starting a new company.
"Jobseeking" is the most pointless and soul-destroying thing... I advise anyone to avoid it as long as possible. And if you come across a decent criminal scheme; take it! You might not get caught! And hey, even if you do, you don't have to look for jobs in jail. *shrugs*
