As far as scientific reality goes and probably lots more fun. I'm sure that Georgia woman's head will soon explode.

Universal Studios is opening up a Harry Potter theme park in Florida complete with the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, the Forbidden Forest and Hogsmeade village.

"The Wizarding World of Harry Potter," will open in late 2009 in Orlando, officials said Thursday.

"The plans I've seen look incredibly exciting, and I don't think fans of the books or films will be disappointed," said author J.K. Rowling, who has been working with a creative team to make sure the park resembles the books and films.

I can not wait for this park to open and according to Mugglenet, it is reporting early 2010. This is going to be so much fun :)

Well, I'm 20. I'm sort of in that gray area between young enough to enjoy it and old enough to have kids to take there for vacation to enjoy it.

Kinda like how apparently Chuck E Cheese has a policy that between something like 18 and 25 you have to be accompanied by a minor to get in.

I thought Chuck E Cheese was creepy before. It has doubled in creepiness since I read this post.

The one time I went there, an amateur magician was our waiter. I can think of little more annoying than having an amateur magician serve you food.

I used to work at a restaurant where one of the waiters enjoyed doing magic tricks at some of the tables - particularly if there were kids there. He always got really high tips. He came and did tricks at my tables sometimes and increased my tips as well. Apparently, not everyone is really annoyed by it. =)

I for some reason did not get into Harry Potter. I enjoy fantasy, especially high fantasy that involves sorcery and the like. I think that the writer's tone is to blame for my dislike more than anything. Anyway... I do enjoy the movies.

An Harry Potter Themepark is preferable to a creatinist museum; someday when (more like IF) I have children I'll likely indoctrinate them into reading with storeis I enjoyed as a kid like the Time Machine and stuff.. and I'm sure my children will like harry potter.

I never really got into harry potter either. It's in many ways a reading level below the one I'm used to (Gene Wolfe, George R. R. Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire" series, if you're wondering) and it lacks the rich detail and intrigue I love in other high fantasy and sci-fi series.

Looking back at Harry Potter if it came out now I would never have read it. I refuse to read 1-3 now because I hate them. However, when Harry Potter came out (well got big, I think it came out long before that) I was 9 so it was just at my reading level so I sort of grew up with it. Now, I need to know the plot anyway no matter what the books are like.

I'd recommend reading something by R.A. Salvatore or Margaret Weis/Tracy Hickman at your age.

Thats my problem.. I grew up reading Mark Twain, and Robert Jordan, and stuff like War of the World's and Bram Stokers Dracula (I thought Frankenstien was even better though)

I never really got into Frankenstein or Dracula.

I was raised on the classics, Count of Monte Cristo, Three Musketeers, Kidnapped, The Prisoner of Zenda (my personal favorite), and then in middle school got really into Asimov's Foundation series.
I didn't even really start reading high fantasy until high school, and I jumped right into Salvatore and Greenwood.

I keep thinking I might read some RA Salvatore - my husband loves those books - but I can't seem to make myself do it.

I'm a big fan of Anne Bishop right now in the fantasy realm.

Personally though, I also love Harry Potter. The books (especially the earliest ones) were certainly simple to read, but I enjoy the story.

Each book is essentially the same in terms of plot and flow. They just change the details around and republish it.

If you're into Anne Bishop I'd try Singer of All Songs by Kate Constable.

And I'd recommend that your husband read Elaine Cunningham if he's exhausted the steady supply of R.A. Salvatore books.

Man, this is great news! Cause, you know, if there was one thing that Orlando was in desperate need of, it's a theme park. Why, this will change Orlando forever...

Hehe, that's our generations fault, I suspect. We didn't do that whole 'farwell to childish things' bit. While it did mean some obnoxious things like flanneled dudes in McDonalds Playlands and the like, we also did grow the video game industry to $10 billion a year...

From what I understand, it's a section of a themepark, not a whole park dedicated just to Harry Potter.

You don't have to be a librarian to recognise a good book when you read one :)
