Just kill us already...

For those people who hate the death penalty, and are all in favor of life imprisonment for certain crimes, we have the opinion of 311 Italian prisoners, who are tired of dying "a little each day" and are asking that they be put to death by the Italian state.

Do you think their request should be granted? I do. If that's what they want as an alternative to life imprisonment, then that's fine with me.

Well I advocate the death penalty for people who don't want to die, so it'd be a little hypocritical of me to refuse it for people who do. ;)

Let them kill themselves the old fashioned way: With a bottle of bourbon and bottle of valium.

I do believe that too. Especially with the horrible conditions in my country's prison system...

I don't believe the purpose of the penal system should be punishment. In fact, I think it's misnamed.

The sentence, IMHO, should be something designed to make sure the person can't do their crime again, because it's obvious that the criminal didn't have the personal willpower or worldview to prevent himself from committing the crime.

Therefore, death to me is not a punishment, but the ultimate means of preventing recidivism.

Life imprisonment is also a means of preventing recidivism, until a later government votes to release them anyway.

Long sentences that age a prisoner out so that when we release them, they are old codgers who wear a colostomy bag and have to ride in a motorized wheelchair are also good at preventing repeat offenses.

No, they are supposed to be punished to the full extent of the law...They have to serve their entire sentence, then they can kill themselves if they want to...

Why should a criminal get the punishment they want just to get out of the horrible punishment they deserve?

A great argument against the death penalty, I think, is that life in prison is much more of a punishment. This should be obvious by the prisoners request. Death is the easy way out.

If they really want to die they can just hang themselves in their cells. In my opinion they're just looking for attention.

that's actually pretty tricky.

too little you just go to sleep and have weird dreams

too much, you get really sick, but don't die

you have to find the balance.

One's life is one's own, even if one is a prisoner. If someone honestly wants to die, let them.

I've never advocated the Death Penalty as a punishment. I advocate it as the permanent removal of someone who has proven too dangerous to others to be allowed to live.

Nah, slit their throat, sell the blood to the necromancers, and burn the rest- after making them dream of their victims...of course

Allow them to do so then. It would be economically beneficial if the did so, and I see no reason to oblige them to linger on only to cause emotional distress.
