LONDON - A British performance artist has eaten part of a corgi — the breed of dog that is the favorite pet of Queen Elizabeth II — to protest the alleged mistreatment of animals by the royal family.

Mark McGowan set up a table on a London street Tuesday and dined on what he said was the meat from a corgi in hopes of drawing attention to media reports that Prince Philip, the queen's husband, had beaten a fox to death during a hunt.

Yeeech! Well, I hope I beat DCD to this story.

On the subject of the protest, are you in favor of, or against, fox hunting in the UK?

BTW, I am only in favor of hunting animals you plan on eating, and only if you shoot them (it's a quicker death than being whacked by a geriatric Englishman).

Beat a fox to death?

And what do you think of the method of protest?

How old is Philip? He looks too old and lazy to beat a fly to death.

I hunt them evil roaches with a shoe and whack 'em to death, but I don't eat them.

I call an exterminator. If he eats them, that's his business.

I think it is a shame he didn't eat a royal.

I like to think of myself as a lover of animals. I'm very passionate when they are mis-treated or abused. Just look at the recent Hawk Slaughtering thread.

However, I would have to say that I am against the Fox Hunting Ban.
Why? Many people don't appear to be aware of my argument. So here's somthing to mull over.

My primary reason for being against the Fox Hunting Ban is because the land that was previously used by hunters to hunt foxes is owned by private interests, that leased the land to the hunters. Now that the hunters are being routed (they still try to hold hunts) these private interests have to find new ways to make profit from thier land. How?

Building development. There are plenty of private companies who relish the chance to level more forests and build new housing estates, corporate developments etc in Britain.

Now the land previously used for hunting will be levelled. The natural habitats of countless species of British wildlife will be ruined, not just the foxes. Only a small number of foxes actually are killed annually on foxing hunts. Most are simply chased for sport. So now, we will be sacrificing many other animal habitats in order to prevent 5 or 6 foxes from being killed each year.

Countryside person. My sister used to work at a hunt yard.
We used to keep chickens, ducks and geese until they were all killed by foxes. Not eaten, just killed. All of them.
You have to control the population of foxes, and a quick death-by-dog seems more humane than a slow death-by-poisoning or death-by-inaccurate-bullet-wound.
Hunting rarely kills the foxes directly, but it does scatter the cubs.

Or you could be against both fox-hunting and leveling forests.

Splitting hairs, but Prince Philip was originally of the Greek/Danish Royal House of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg.

The article says that the dog died of natural causes at a breeding farm.

It's definitely an odd protest. I assume his point was supposed to be something about the treatment of the Queen's favorite breed versus the treatment of foxes, but all I see is a guy eating dog like it isn't a food in other countries.

my thoughts exactly. the protest seems odd. not that i find eating dog meat particularly repulsive (it's just meat) just that it's got no equivalence to the Chookie Embrah's actions. if it was me i'd have got a dead stuffed corgie and started beating it at the gates of buckingham palace.
