I quite agree the actual event is not humerous, mainly for the chap involved. I was trying to point out the humerous value of the headline.:)

Same here. But still, a 50 year old man almost getting killed by a hamster... I was thinking of a life-or-death wrestling match until I read the article. Now the headline isn't as funny.

A friend of my family is slightly (but nowhere near "fatally") allergic to cats.
Unfortunately cats really like him. He's also surprisingly often in the "right" place at the "right" time to rescue an injured or trapped cat (and, being a builder, he has the kit to do the rescuing).
The universe just hates some people :p
