Game Idea, what do you think?

I was watching a documentary on the French Revolution in History class when i began to think...This would be a cool video game...

I began to think of playing as an angry French guy in the middle of the revolution...you can participate in the Bread riots, the storming of the Bastille and the march on Versailles...I guess you could even go up to the Napoleonic Wars...

In my mind I imagined it as a third person shooter with controls like GTA...you get to use muskets, pikes and other weapons.........I think it would be awesome...

what do you people think??

If its a hit maybe an American or Russian revolution game might be good too...

cool.

but i think you need more of a choice of characters. angry peasant, revolutionary leader, member of the aristocracy, or guy fighting against the revolution.

Scarlet pimpernel. So much more fun. It'd be like Assassins Creed and Splinter Cell combined with more than a bit of pure awesome mixed in.

maybe it should be placed in a fictional or modern revolution, pikes and muskets aren't that cool from a FPS's perspective (unless maybe you make it more RPG oriented). Modern weapens are just cooler, and you could make the storyline more interesting if it was a ficitonal revolution. The Russian revolution would be slightly more interesting because of the modern weapens, and AFAIK there were also more (interesting) factions involved.

I'd be game. Actually I really want to see games based off of WWI and perhaps the American Civil war. Made properly, like say the Call of Duty crew, it could be the shiznit. Reloading times can be reduced to make things go faster... or it might be quite entertaining if you had to hit the proper buttons and pump one of the analog sticks to reload the damn thing yourself.

I watched a film in my history class 2 weeks ago about this also. I think this idea would be better for movies than games.

yea thats why i thought a 3rd Person Shooter/game would be better than an FPS....muskets + FPS doesn't really work....

Russian revolution would be boring as hell. You'd need to fast forward to the Civil War, but even then it would end up just being like any other war game, but without being anywhere near as coherent as a WWII one.

thats a pretty cool idea...with the analog stick....

I got that idea thinking about Call of Duty 3... there are several points in the game where you have to actually do things other than hit the 'Y' button. For instance, while placing an explosive charge or running a piece of machinery.

Could have to reload (you would go through this extensily in the tutorial prolly) by doing say...

Hit Button 1 to grab a cartridge and place it in your gun. Hit button 2 to to get the ramrod, mash in the analog to make sure its all good and in there. Hit button 2 to return the ramrod in its place. And then hit button 3 to prime it.

It sounds complicated but would be simple for anyone who knows how to play.

meh, i think that in order to make it at least somewhat entertaining you should add some RPG and some tactical elements. One of your 'quests' could be to liberate a certain prisoner from the bastille for instance or save someone who is going to die by guillotine or help organize the riots etc. And because you can only fire your gun once there should maybe also be some kind stealth/tactical element, you obviously can't just run in and shoot everything that moves because it takes at least 30 seconds to reload.

well of course...with muskets it is impossible to do the whole "run-n-gun, one man army thing"...some tactics would be okay...I guess you could maybe do a stealth mission...say, you play as an Imperial Guard and have to do a mission where you....uhhh....sneak into Paris and assassinate someone? maybe?

maybe you could chose out of two people who to free, one could be a revolutionary and the second could be someone sympathetic to the monarchy and then you could chose what side you were on instead of chosing your character at the very begining.

Is it just me or does the comment about fast forwarding imply that he thinks the Russian revolution happened before the Civil War?

He means the Russian Civil War - between the Reds and the Whites, USA isn't the only country to go through a civil war...

I think u should make it a sort of a adventure rpg with some puzzle solving, like the Legend of Zelda series. As for what kind of puzzles you can have during the French Revoloution...I'm sure you could make something up.

Depends which Civil War you're talking about.

I'm talking about Russia. So the Russian Civil War. 1917-1921. The Revolution (or, more accurately, revolutions) being what kicked it off.

Uh, you realize it takes quite a bit of time to reload a musket?

I'm not a big fan of "Let's put a different can of paint on already existing games" Let's have a true revolution here, hm.

I'm sure the players would love the 30-second reload time. ;)

Nosferatu compensated for the slow-ass reload of black powder firearms by letting you carry more than one to use. They also killed things faster (since black powder bullets before Minnie balls tended to lack any actual aerodynamic streaming they carried more kinetic impact when they hit a target and tore into them rather gruesomely.)

And what "true revolution"?

No, this would not make a good game. It'd be too restrictive to the player. And to be remotely accurate it would need some sort of stravation and sickness system.
