So, do you support a bloc of leftist or as the Iranian Pres says, 'revolutionary countries' to oppose american imperialism and the like?

That's laughable.

The countries that matter are still on the US' side. These pukey little countries could do nearly nothing besides hurl playground insults at the UN. NATO/ANZUS/TMC&S are all firmly cemented, whilst China and India have too much to gain from access to American markets to gripe much.

In theory it could be a good idea, the world needs someone there to balance the power against the US, assuming it could be done in a non-cold-war-dealie kind of way. Which I'm sceptical of.

Great idea, give America a tangible, united opposition for them to fight.
Why don't you just give every American a grenade or something instead?

I wish I could be the ambassador of Venezuela. I'd do a much better job at relations.

Left-wing governments should oppose the conservative religious regimes of the middle east.

I agree in spirit, but they'd see greater prosperity if good center-right, but non-theocratic, governments gained power. :)

Center-right FTW.

Extremism, be it left wing or right wing, is never good.

Well I think the point is, the Iranian Pres himself is a bit of a populist and a leftist, he spent massive amounts of money in public works, and subsidies/welfare to the people, I'd say that's why he's interested. Also Syria (if your counting Irans ally) is a Baathist regime on the ideals of Arab socialism.

Why should the power of the US be opposed?

Ahmadinejad a leftist? Huh? He's a populist, but about the left/right axis, I'd say that he's nearer to the classical right-wing populism (state intervention + tradition + religion, typical of many right-wing regimes, like Mussolini or Peron, just to quote different examples).

Also, the Baath is socialist in the meaning of National Socialism - Nazi, if you prefer. Look at Saddam, he was a typical Baath, and the first thing he did was to have all the communist MPs executed.

Are you honestly suggesting that Iran's government is left wing? I might have just misunderstood. Anyway, I just want those bastards in Tehran out of power.

Errr...

This is absolute crap from both sides.

Venezuala is basically not being invaded on the behest of the US, which will do it as soon as the oil runs out in any friendly countries, most of the rest of South America is poverty-ridden and has no actual power on the international scene.

On the other hand, "US imperialism" as it's frequently put is also stupendously grating and it basically does my head in to see "various calamities occur in Middle East, a great many people die" on the news every day - I can't be arsed linking to that Onion article everyone has seen a million times in the last month or two, but it basically sums it all up.

*sighs*
