Weirdest mixture of food and drink?
Food: The last time I was cooking up potatoe soup I discovered after starting up with the onions and slicing up potatoes that we didn't have the normal stuff it calls for in my recepie that some of you may or may not have seen on this forum, and as such I was forced to improvise. Ended up tossing all sorts of random crap in there...it was a real mixture of vegetables and whatnot. Tasted absolutely fantastic though...so I guess it turned out well.
Drink: Lesse...I once combined Coke, Pepsi, Mug, Barqs AND A&W Root Beer, Mountain Dew, Sierra Mist, Dr. Pepper, 7-UP, and the diet version of all of those into one gigantic 64 ounce soda.
...
Holy crap was that one awesome soda. :D

No problem here. Relish is spices (cinnamon, ginger, cumin, cloves, particularly that yellow one ... dammit ... Turmeric.) And lots of sugar, a bit of salt and lumps of vegetable. So long as you took the lumps out, I'd drink with you any day.

Lemon juice and Jack Daniels.
That is apparently a "whiskey sour" ... and therefore, having a name known from movies and books, made of fail in the "weird things to eat/drink" department.
Sorry. Put a raw egg in it and we'll talk.
To elaborate: Anything with gin in it starts with a huge advantage in the "weird" stakes (or handicap in the "sensible" stakes, if you prefer.)
The most common style of gin, typically used for mixed drinks, is London dry gin. London dry gin is made by taking a neutral grain spirit (usually produced in a column still) and redistilling after the botanicals are added. In addition to juniper, it is usually made with a small amount of citrus botanicals like lemon and bitter orange peel. Other botanicals that may be used include anise, angelica root, orris root, licorice root, cinnamon, coriander, and cassia bark.
Whereas bourbon (eg Jack Daniels) is whiskey which has been burnt in the still, with sugar added to cover the taste.
Heck, come to think of it, they both rock. I would drink either or both or an admixture with traditional kefir, with or without relish or any beer you care to name ... in fact, come to think of it ... yep, if it's alcoholic, I will drink it.
That is apparently a "whiskey sour" ... and therefore, having a name known from movies and books, made of fail in the "weird things to eat/drink" department.
Oh, right. I'm ignorant about things like that, I just dreamed up the idea one day and it was good.
Nobel Hobos
28-05-2007, 12:07
I was ignorant too, until I googled it.
A whiskey sour is obviously made with whiskey, but it's almost the same.
Just didn't seem that weird, since bourbon tastes too sweet to me, so acidifying it is logical.
I advocate putting ordinary white vinegar in white wine, if it's all nastily stickily sweet. Sweet booze is an abomination .... kid stuff.
EDIT: Err ... but I still drink it if that's all there is. My sister used to demand Plum Brandy whenever we were in a restaurant, but when it wasn't available, we'd slip her Grenadine + Vodka and I swear she didn't know the difference.

I keep picturing a pizza with little singers on top, shrieking as people bite into them. It is a very odd mental image.
As for my weird mixtures, the best one I can think of offhand was a concoction invented on the balcony of a Helsinki hotel by some friends and I, which involved Estonian black currant liqueur, pear juice, plain yogurt, crushed ice, and various forms of hard liquor (I believe mine had vodka). Odd, but nonetheless delicious. (One can also leave out the last three ingredients to make the girliest girly-drink imaginable, which is quite good in its own right.)
