Isn't Facebook a trip?

I resisted all through the school year, because most of my classmates were Facebook addicts, and I figured it was probably as lame as MySpace. But a friend from WAAAY back invited me, so I got on for her. I can't believe the crazy people I've managed to find since...it's been one walk down memory lane after another :D

The thing I notice the most is that other people's memories of you are particularly interesting. You might remember things one way, and they remind you of something you either blocked out intentionally or just forgot. I realise this isn't going to be appealing to those folks who'd like to cut ties with their past, but I'm enjoying it!

So, love it, hate it, or indifferent?

The social networking sites are all interchangeable IMO. Myspace is much the same as facebook is much the same as bebo, etc.

I have no use for it. I have my own domain... I don't need no stinkin' social website; mine's good enough. Free reign with no stings attached! And it's mine!!

I don't really care for it. Especially when someone was using it as their sole means of communication with me and got pissed off with me for not replying to a message swiftly. I asked why they didn't phone me or send me a text and they complained that it would cost them money. Considering I'd been trying to phone them and they never picked up, I wasn't best pleased. I then asked why they hadn't sent me an email or contacted me via MSN. They responded that I would get an email when they sent the message on facebook. I replied that, unlike some, I was addicted to facebook and did not need to be constantly informed of what was happening on a snobish version of myspace.

Suffice to say I was not best amused.

Facebook is a toy, and not for anything remotely serious. Need I mention the various 'facebook races'.

That being said I have been in touch with a few friends from primary school which was fun.

My friends have been trying to persuade me for several months to join it because it's "so much fun". I have thus far refused on the grounds that if I want to communicate with a friend, I will almost undoubtedly have their email address or phone number.

It's good for finding old friends and stuff. Or talking te people you no longer see.
Neesika

Yeah, I see no use for it outside of finding people I was unable to locate before. Once someone gets ahold of me or visa versa, and I actually want to get back in touch, I take it outside Facebook.

It's passable. I like the capacity to meet fellow freshers before freshers week, and to generally wind up anti-Thatcherites, but beyond that, it simply isn't as funny as MySpace.

So what? I like to play with toys. Those pens that write in different colours as you use them are fun toys, but would you use one to fill in a job application or in an exam? That's what my rant was aimed at.

Facebook has swept across my university with about 60% having an account. So it's pretty pervasive, and is being hailed as a new age in communication. It gets annoying.

Oh, and it's currently procrastination tool of choice for most undergrads at my university. Personally, I still stick to NS, computer games, books, and for when I'm really feeling guilty about not doing any work - cleaning.

I'm not on Facebook very often these days, but it's a great way to look up people I was friends with years ago and get back in touch with them. I used to be on Facebook every day back when I joined a few years ago, but the novelty wore off pretty quickly. It's changed a lot since I first joined, too.

I use facebook to find people who I went to high school with. I also use it to contact people, because my laptop is in my room and the phone is in the kitchen and I'm way too lazy to actually walk out and call them. Besides, I don't want to go through the little formalities of them asking me how my day was when I was in class with them 5 hours ago.

I'm in love with Facebook. I, too, thought it would be really lame, but decided to get it on a whim when my friend sent me one of those "I just got this, please get it too" form e-mails. I love it so much! That same friend and I literally have about 1000 pms between us. It's a flashback to History class, when we'd pass post-it-notes during the lectures. It's also a good way to stalk people you're curious about, get back in touch with old friends, and join like fifty groups of people who are just like you. I've even found a group of people who are going to the same school as me next year, and 180 other people who've had their love lives f.ed up by Wuthering Heights. It's brilliant. I waste whole days on Facebook.

Yeah, that's the sad drawback. When you're best friend's status reads: "[name] is confused. I'm so sorry, Heather. I was drunk. I'm sorry.", you suddenly know that you're best friend fooled around with your guy at a party at least ten minutes before she calls you to tell you to your face. Woot!

"Happy Birthday" is supposed to be sung Allegro, actually (hooray for music theory!).

Me, I've been on Facebook since not long after it came to my school. I generally wait to get an email notification of someone writing on my wall or sending me a message to check it, although I also use it as a more effective Student Directory. I've never seen a whole lot of the appeal in it, although it makes for a rather effective messaging system (easier than most email services, actually). So yeah... overall, a general "meh".

And how in the world can people waste so much time on Facebook? Unless I'm writing on someone's wall or responding to a message, I get bored almost instantly. Much more entertaining to play video games.

I'm thinking a strip-o-gram would be by far the best way to send that "I slept with your guy" message.

"Your friend [randomname] got really drunk last night and slept with your boyfriend, and she sent me to make it up to you. Oh yeah."

I'm definitely a Facebook addict. I resisted for quite some time, since everyone in my immediate family is on it. However, someone in my family ran into a next door neighbour that was a good friend of mine when I was really young, and I hopped on.

Since then, I've bumped into all sorts of people, ranging from friends that I played Hot Wheels with when I was little, to high school friends I've lost touch with, to ex-employees and former co-workers. Half of my 'real life' friends are still resistant to Facebook, but the other half are active, and we have our own group, which is handy.

I also use it as a bit of a spammy release, with oddball comments and some creative writing (limited to movie critiques at the moment.)

I'd say it's all good, but the random stranger thing happens once in a while, and I just don't like it... I dunno. The few NS types I've added as friends on Facebook are fine, since they seem 'real' when you've seen them post for a while. The random person who clicks on your picture to harass you... no thanks.

Facebook is an amazing tool for college students. It allows you to see what events are hosted at your school and keep in touch with friends from High School. You can see when they're online so you know when to give them a call.

It is also great for people who have moved from one town to another. I have found a ton of friends from when I lived in Ann Arbor and Valpo. It was really nice to find old friends from when I was growing up.

Because of the overwhelming naivete, I know ... my exams are next week ... it's going to be hell. >.<I wouldn't call allowing yourself some free time. Infact it's more productive to allow yourself a break from revision. I tried telling this to certain people, but they didn't listen. But they didn't listen and ended procrastinating on facebook.

I'm not revising properly because I'm transfering to another course next year independent of what I get in my exams. It's hard to work when there's no pressure to do well.

Good luck with the exams though.
