Just got mine over the mail. Where the hell do they tell me what my PIN is?

Send me your card number, any enclosed paperwork, and any other recent correspondence from your bank. I'll find it for you and let you know ;)

I think they send it 1 or 2 days later. This means that if your mail is stolen one day they will only get either the card or the PIN, which is useless without the other.

Lame. The only reason I need it is because it was required for enlistment.

Wow, that is pretty ingenious! :)

What? The Army requires that people own Credit Cards now?

I just got mine recently and my pin is coming on maybe Monday. Coincidence that the same thing is happening to someone here lol. I have a few hundred dollars in my checking account from lots of Christmases and birthdays. Seeing as how I don't make any money, I'm only going to be thrifty and spend it only on books and supplies for uni...of course that's empty promise, but it makes me feel that I have great resolve.

they pay you by direct deposit into your checking account
if you want to buy something using your army pay the best way is to use your check card at point of sale terminal or get cash out of the account from an atm machine. A check card is not a credit card, since you must actually have the money in your account to buy something with it

Ignorant foreigner here: is that unusual in your country then ? Here 99% of all companies pay employees through the bank...

As far as I am aware the standard method of payment in the United States of America is by a paper pay check for most working people.

That's more or less true, for the time being. A lot of companies are switching over to direct deposit now though(it's cheaper, faster and noone has to worry about your check getting lost in the mail), and in some places you'll be hard pressed to find a place that still sends out printed checks.

It's spelled check, not cheque. Cheque is some fancy attempt at being...fancy...

Oh good. It'd be nice for all of my jobs to have direct deposit. You'll find that a lot of places still won't do it, such as fast food restaurants.
