Privately owned house pets should be forbidden

This morning, I woke up, ran to the bakery in a hurry and I didn’t saw it, but there it was:
Fresh, glooming and waiting for a poor victim like me: a pile of dog shit

Before I saw it, my foot landed perfectly in the middle. Aaargh!

Now, that’s one reason to ban all cats and dogs. Lots of owners do not have the politeness to take care of the mess their pets are producing. But there’s more.

Al Gore is having a mount full of green gasses and stuff. I was wondering how much methane all pets together are producing. Well it’s a lot. And they do certainly add their contribution to the green gas thing. Ok, we people, are far worse. But we are humans.

When I returned from the bakery, I opened my newspaper and on the front page the headline was shouting to me: Labrador killed 3 year old child!

And that’s not rare. It happen a lot that some dog go mad and attack people and even kill them sometimes. It’s still a beast and one can’t control it 100%, sooner or later even the cutest poodle could transform in a killer.

I carried on with reading my paper and an article took my attention: the holidays are close and lots of animals will be left alone in the woods. Most of them die an awful death.

In a way it is also unethical, having a pet. Would you like to be the pet of some superior being?

So, in short, I think we should outlaw privately owned house pets.

So watch where you're stepping and stop reading sensationalist news stories that blow everything out of proportion and emphasize rarely occuring negatives.

I do agree that pet owners need to be responsible about cleaning up after their pets, but I don't think that one owner's irresponsibly behavior should be a rationale for penalizing all pet owners.

looking at any living organism as being "owned" is an absurd perspective. leaving food out for them and inviting them into our homes should not be (forbidden, that is), however. nor are restrictions as to what sort of creatures one may do so with entirely reasonable.

there are of course certain risks with reversing this policy. risks which might have a certain normalizing effect upon the size of all species populations, that of humans included.

this might not, considering our current unbalances, be entirely a bad thing.

if you want to talk about species being nusances, while certain domestic dogs and cats, especialy those which have gone ferral, can be, there is no species a bigger nusaunce, then that of so called humanity.

I believe dogs should be made the legal caretakers of humans, and we should do the bidding of dogs. They seem to be smarter than the average imbecile. Of course not me though - I would need to be world dictator. Ahh yes... Man controlled by Dog... wonderful really. precludes wars. If anyone resists they'll be mauled to death.

I'll only agree to this if I can have a publicly owned house pet in my house. Especially if the public is responsible for any damage caused by such animal. :p

Nooo, don't ban pets you animal hater :(

But anyone whose pet kills someone or goes violent repeatedly has proven themselves unfit to look after a dangerous animal and should be banned from ever having potentially dangerous pets again.

Many of the domesticated species have lost the feral instincts required to survive without their human caretakers/servants. On the other hand they have reached a success in terms of worldwide spread and large total population they could never have gotten close to without help from humans.

Their living standards are usually better then in the wild. From pets having medical care, food that doesn't run away or hide and a heated house safe from cold, rain and danger. To livestock having fenced off grazing areas in the summer that are kept safe from predators by humans and dogs plus heated barns with plenty of food that isn't covered by snow in the winter plus medical care here too.

We humans wouldn't have gotten far without domesticated animals. It would be very ungrateful and cruel of us to break the symbiosis and abandon the species that made it possible for us to build civilization. But many countries needs to catch up on animal protection laws, that is what we should do, take better care of them.

While I agree that dogs are disgusting animals, I would never want to ban kitties.

I hate dogs; they're so gross sometimes, especially when they're off-leash and their owners bring them into a place of business. I actually walked out of a store yesterday because of it and I told the clerks working there that I would never shop there again because they allowed dogs into the store.

Dogs ought to be kept on leashes at all times.

Cats I find are easier to deal with and the only dangerous ones are the older street cats, but they tend to not be so much of a bother.

http://weaselhut.net/kitty2.jpg

And besides, how can you want to get rid of kitties? Look, she's so cute! Plus my cat couldn't even kill a fly.

My cat on the other hand is a lean mean killing machine who keeps his owner so terrified of him , that the food bowl is never empty.

On the other hand that family of mice who were living 2 doors down from me in an empty house found that my cat had a such a caring nature, that all he wanted to do was give them a nice warm home.............in his stomach:eek:

Actually he prefers sitting in my lap and being stroked while I sentence minions to their death

Something’s to note regarding your tirade (and yes I will use simple words).

(1) Growing up and or living in and urban area the 1st rule of survival is always looking where you’re stepping. If you don’t, don't blame anyone but yourself for the consequences.

(2) Pet owners should clean up after their pets. But who cleans up after strays?

(3) Pet attacks are generally caused by pets owned by bad owners. Pet ownership involves responsible training and control of your pet. Ban bad pet owners not pets.

(4) You are assuming, apparently, that you are a superior being. News for you bad boy, your assumptions and attitudes only confirm the superiority of my Springer Spaniel.

I don't own any house pets, but there are two indoor cats who live here and own me and my wife. They allow me to live here, pay the mortgage, the utilities, and buy the cat food and kitty litter. They allow Mrs. Oklatex to live here also and let her feed them and clean the litter box.

To show their gratitude for what we are allowed to do for them, one of them brings us a toy chicken or ball almost every night and drops it at our feet. They also get up on our lap and reward us by allowing us to pet and brush them. I'm sure they think we are the best house pets they ever owned. :fluffle:

And as far as the dog killing the three year old goes, its the parents fault for not training the dog correctly and letting their poorly trained dog play with their 3 year old.

No, if anyone ahould be banned from many places it's children only. They are ten times more loud, obnoxious, destructive and malicious than any animal. One of the biggest reasons that some dogs maul children is because the little shits torment tthe dog until he loses it. Maybe there should be a better screening process for people who want to adopt or buy a dog in a pet shop. For that matter ban some pet shops.

There must be some allergic reaction you are having to newspaper ink if you think this is even a plausible or good idea.
President Sarkozy
26-05-2007, 18:55
No, but children seriously need to be banned from many places. I'd rather have dog or cat around any day.

Plus, children torment dogs until the dog turns around and takes a chunk out of them, good for the dogs.
