Metallica started in the 80's. They are thrash, but they are one of the pioneers, iirc, so quite old.

meh, sometimes it's just quite cool to listen to him, i don't really care if he was original or if he had a supervoice, i don't even listen to him a lot, i was just pleasantly surprised when i did hear his songs for the first time.

And on the albums you named I agree completely all good, then shite.
But you forgot the original Garage Days...a great set of covers that was.

Firstly, heavy metal has been covered in the last couple of worst popular band thread. Pick something else next time. If you want to do this fairly you will have to do every genre in as much detail as metal has been done in in the future.

Secondly, I put forward Kiss. Most overrated band ever.

He was a very good singer. Yes he covered songs by black artists but without him the music would never have become as popular as it has been ever since. You are forgetting that at the time, racisim in America prevented many of the black artists becoming big until Elvis exposed their music to the white audience. He paved the way for other, and arguably better, artists to break into the mainstream such as Chuck Berry and Ray Charles.

I can't stand Elvis. Buddy Holly and the Crickets were way better.

I would say that KSP is incorrect. Metallica were better than Slayer. Past tense.

I like most of the other thrash bands better than Slayer, especially the bay area scene. Testament, Exodus, etc.

In this case it is, though. Those whose minds have progressed beyond the level of a 15 year old adolescent do not feel the need to go around insulting those who like music different from their own tastes any more than they feel the need to demean those who like different food than they do.

Going back to the food analogy, there is of course a difference between simply not liking a dish and not liking it because it's prepared badly.
