Yes, I too can sell my soul (not really about souls at all)

Well, I can get on TV multiple times by shaking the Prime Minister's hand. I just thought this thread title might be a tad more interesting.

My question is: have you ever gotten on TV doing something you were sure you never would? Or have you just been on telly in general?

Take it away.

I got on Public Access one time, does that count?

Yes. And I'm still pissed about both of them.

What happened?

First one was at my friends funeral after she died in a fire. I was at a memorial service, hugging a good friend (she was the girl who died's best friend), with me shedding a tear (the friend was sobbing, but her face was atleast hidden)

Second was a candlelight vigil for VT.

In both cases, I'm just pissed because I couldn't mourn a good friend (or, in the case of VT, a friend of a friend) without having a camera shoved in my face to get the shot or a sound clip. If they wanted my thoughts, they could ask me AFTER. Not while I'm trying to hold myself together while I comfort a good friend, or while I'm trying to be respectful.

To be fair, the media was okay about my friends funeral and memorials...they tended to stand far away and just zoom in. In the VT issue, they were literally less than 2 feet away from us, taking pictures.

A Newsman once tried to interview me. I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti. :p

Nah, not really. I just walked away. Point is, I could've been on the news, but the Newsguy was all pushy, so I walked off.

I have never knowingly been on tv, and nor do I plan to ever.

Ghosts don't show up on film. :D And when I'm human, I'm not important enough to get on TV.

I always thought they had to ask for permission before they could use your picture?

I was on TV for a split second. While playing a game of D&D. They were doing a thing on some D&D tournament going on at the time. Maybe it was the anniversary or something.

nope. for a documentary and that kind of thing, yes. But since it is the news, and they are just reporting, they can use your image. Not sure why exactly, but *shrug*

I was on TV when I volunteered with the Special Olypmpics. I understand I may have been on TV in several different countries.

When I was in Toronto on the band trip, we got filmed... twice.

The first time somebody from CTV was filiming two guys (seniors) singing "I will Survive".

The second time we were just extras in this movie or something.

I don't know that I was seen, but my high school marching band was.

I think that you can ask that they not use your identity, but if you don't say anythign about it then they'll use it.

I was on television no less than three times during the whole Platte Canyon Hostage Crisis/ School shooting last September, with the final time involving my punching a news reporter after insistant questions in my face.

Then I was on television a couple times after that in related mourning events.

In all times I was not only extremely bothered by it, I was thoroughly pissed and angry, and demanded that they never show my face on their news again. So far, they have complied.

I work behind the scenes in television, so sometimes I end up in front of the camera but not that often, but I have definitely lost track of the times. Not enough that any of you would recognize me (and, you have to keep in mind I work on some really shitty shows, so...)

What he said, with news anyone on public space is fair game. For any other type of taping or filming you need permission, but that can be gained by what's called an 'Area Release' which is just a sign you see at concerts sometimes or what not that says entering this area is giving consent to use your image.

A TV camera was pointed at me for a few seconds before I noticed, so I ran into The Gap. I was later used in a news segments about the mall.

Did they show the whole clip of you running into The Gap? Like as part of an exposé on compulsive shoppers.

Yes, and then it showed my friend standing there confused as to why I had just ran off.

Nah, some company from Philly just bought the mall, and they were doing a story about how they plan to make the place not so shitty.

Guess they thought we were shopping, not students. *shrugs*

I found myself on TV and in the papers somewhat often when I was a teenager. My school did lots of projects and hosted odd events -- most of the time I was recorded painting a wall or moving boxes of random stuff. It's not too fun to look back and watch now, though. The horrors of teenagers and bad hair dye.
