Snake eats alligator. Explodes.

It's an old story (from 2005, in fact), so I'm not sure what it's doing on the BBC's 'most read' stories list, but here ya go:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/4313978.stm
A Burmese python swallowed a 6-foot long alligator, then promptly exploded. Here's the best bit:
The python's remains were found with the victim's tail protruding from its burst midsection. The head of the python was missing.
Must've been some explosion...
Let me be the first to say this:

Yeah, but that snake didn't explode. Therefore, not as cool. Not as dead, either, but not as cool.

Live 'gator... was probably trying to grip onto something and do a death roll. Thereby tearing a huge gash with its thrashing about...obviously never made it as far as it would like though heh.
Wish they'd given more about the missing snakes head. A missing head isn't just absent... no mention of how it looked like the head was removed.
Probably a trophy in somebodies truck.

Could've just been vaporized.
Eh, but the head of the snake is nowhere near the gator. The snake ruptured yes, I see no signs of any violent explosion in that image.
And for that matter, the gator could have caused a rupture, clawing, thrashing about, whatever... and the snake kept trying to "swallow" pushing the body further down and ripping a small opening into what the final image shows before it finally died and stopped pushing.
This story just goes to show that gluttony is indeed a deadly sin. Remember, don't bite off more than you can chew.

I saw this very story on the National Geographic channel about a year ago. The really interesting thing is that, IIRC, the snake tried to swallow the gator tail first.

Local government official Rachmat said the reticulated python measured 48 feet 8 inches and weighed in at 983 pounds.
Wow.... that made my day.
