I was thrown from a golf cart before it rolled and thought that was bad-this guy beat me hands down.

Anyone else have a golf tragedy?

My golf game in general is tragic. And the story above is an argument for walking the course, which is what I tend to do. I love the game and I play it in part for the exercise (and I don't play enough), but the exercise is in walking the course and carrying or dragging your bag.

75 feet is like 25 meters, right?

Hunm, I dont think anyone could survive that, old or not.

The novelty of the cart wore off when I was in my 20s.

Since then, I prefer to walk to walk the course. For the excercise and relaxation. I'm never in a hurry. Plus-you walk plenty when you have a cart anyway-to me,its a waste of time and money.

I dont get to play enough either-with three kids-And my firends also have wives/kids-its hard to get a day where we're all free.

And I got a great "BagBoy" cart from my kids for Father's Day a few years ago-it would be a sin not to use that.

One course we play has a few 400+ yard holes on it and we wind up letting cart guys play through.

They are going to check the cart for mechanical failures? Is it really in that good of shape after falling 75 feet?

Golf is for drunks. I don't play golf because you either have to drink enough to be able to survive the boredom, or you die of boredom.

Not me personally, but a relative of mine went golfing with a friend of his about 2 years ago. His friend got wacked in the head by a golf ball from one of the fields next to their's. He was in the hospital for some time.

thats absurd. maybe if you played with people you dont know or like that'd be the case.

But spending an afternoon with friends and no distractions playing golf is a great way to shake some tension and socialize.
Sure- we'll bring beers and often a few flasks of rum or single malt to go with the cigars, but I'm not a drunk.

Spending an afternoon training in a kill house with simunitions, or shooting live rounds on a combat course is a much better way for me to shake tension and socialize.

Can't drink when you're doing that.

Thats my only fear. Some people dont yell "fore" at all or in time.

I saw a guy get hit in the leg with a ball-he swore it was broken at the time and it looked like it was from the immediate swelling and color.

And I've heard of people getting hit in the head. I cant imagine hitting a 200 yd+ drive and hitting someone in the head. Its got to be sickening.

Someone I know got hit in the head with a club at the driving range.

He had accidentally knocked his ball off the tee, and the ball rollled forward and across someone else's spot.

So he leaned over and *whack*.

He can breathe OK as long as you don't unplug him.

just a few days ago I noticed that a golf ball had landed right where I go for a jog, it had managed to cross the golf course, a very large field and a horse stable/farm

ah the amount of times of nearly died running that railway line :)

For you.

Not all of us have access to that sort of activity anymore. Or would still talk about it.

I still like to paintball twice a year though. And we can drink in between games.

I'm a civilian now. There are a lot of these sorts of ranges around the country.

I can't help it if I like to teach this sort of thing in my spare time, either. That way, someone else is paying for my fun.

My entire game is tragic...

I can drive the ball a good 300 yards or so but I can't control the direction, one time at the driving range I hit the 300 yard sign... on the far left side of the range... I was on the far right!

I always get caught in the water traps too... one game of golf I played I kept getting into the water traps, or mud puddles and such. Finally on the 9th hole (thats as far as we planned on playing) I managed a hole in 2! Imagine that! Then, when I reached in to get the ball out my hand came out soaked...

Put me in the sahara with a golf club and a ball and we can find water!

You know I've played minature golf a bunch of times. It can be really frustrating when the ball doesn't go where I tell it to! It's like ok ball, you see that hole that's where you need to be. Yet, instead he rolls off the green, bounces down the side walk, over the fence and into the street!

Thats ok- its your preference. And if you can have fun for free, its all that much better.

I'll be 40 soon. I've put a lot behind me.

I also dont drive 110 miles per hour anymore, passing people on the shoulder. I dont grab people by the neck that look at me funny anymore.

I'm hoping the knife wielding maniacs and golf balls cancel each other out somehow :p

all I need to do really is run really fast and zig-zag which beats going the other route and risking bumping into people who want me to either pick up shopping or come with :p

If you can hit the ball 300 yds, it would be well worth it to have a few private lessons to help you correct your slice.

300 yds is huge, even with today's clubs. I smash the ball, usually hitting further than anyone I'm with, but I dont know I've ever hit past 250 yards.

my furthest drives have been with me holding the B-1 Bomber with two fists like a baseball bat and lifting my left foot off the ground.

I dont want to kill a guy on the parallel fairway with a line drive, though.

I was made to watch a game on television once. It put me in a trance-like condition wherein my will became subject to that of others. I only watch golf now if I need an effective tranquilizer.
