Ourborous [question for Red Dwarf watchers]

Don't worry my sugar levels are now at a safe level now.

I've been thinking, according to the storyline and the episode "Ourborous" Lister and Katchansky are Lister's parents due to strange phenomenon in the space time continuum. If Lister is his own father and Katchansky is his mother (which explains his oddness because his ex-grilfriend is also his mother) then how come they didn't put Katchansky's pregnancy in the show? It would be hilarious watching Lister scramble around for nine-months making sure his unborn past self doesn't die or get damaged as several series of unfortunate events raise the chance of that happening.

Because the show, unlike the novels to an extent, isn’t just about Dave Lister. A Katchansky pregnant with Lister would have forced the show to focus too much on just one character, when Kryten, Rimmer and The Cat are as much a part of the show.

So you can smeg off with your wild theories! :p

Point well seen.

I can but I choose not to. :p

What he said.

Besides, I personally felt that the show was at its best when it was able to keep to creative storylines, not one plot that lasted a long time. They were able to keep it interesting even in the time period where they were chasing the Red Dwarf from within Starbug, but it got less interesting that last season where they were prisoners on Red Dwarf. Still fun, but not as creative.

Red Dwarf aren't exactly known for flawless plot lines: in fact they do, on occasion, mock themselves for the fact that their stories have more holes in them than Swiss cheese (e.g. the joke about Lister having his appendix removed twice).

This thread is made of smeg for not being about two snakes eating each other.

And that's exactly it. There are so many plot holes. I guess that one in particular didn't bother me. It's kind of a trademark of the show.

Does it say anything about me that when I looked at this thread the main thing I noticed was the spelling errors, to an extent I'd started posting before thinking about the point made in the OP?

Probably. :-)

It would probably be a good recurring joke to put across the course of a series or something like that, but then most Dwarf episodes tend to stand alone without too much of a continuous story arc, so it makes sense not to break that pattern.

Isn't the main plot of Red Dwarf really the plot holes anyway?

For completeness, my favourite quotes: "Bonvolu alsendi la pordiston, laushajne estas rano en mia bideo!" and "I'm Nigel - I'm nice!".

I totally agree.

The best episodes are the stand alone episodes where the crew have to deal with a time or space phenomena; something that’s usually grounded in scientific theory, if not fact.

The unpretty truth is - if it happened after Season 6 (with a couple of exceptions in season 7), it's probably shit, and not worth spending the time thinking too much about.
