Vacations!

So, my summer vacation from school starts on Thursday at 12:15 PM, after the last of my final exams for this year is over.

This summer (in August), my family is going up to Michigan for my cousin's wedding. We're not sure yet whether we're going to fly there or drive, but we're going.

So what are your vacation plans? :)

That would be working and getting ready for fall classes.

I'm trying to get a job, too (I've applied to four places so far), and I have five different summer assignments to do (I've signed up to take seven AP classes next school year. We're starting later, too; school next year doesn't start until August 20! :))

I slowly learned to despise vacations, however I will probably travel somewhere in either France-Germany or Sweden to see what the fuss is about

course I'd be lucky to have any time off in the summer :(

not sure yet, i may be homeless after june. if i'm not i want to take a couple of weeks out to visit various friends across the UK, and i've also got an invite to brittany so i might make it there for a weekend. if i have a permanent full time job by then i probably won't be able to though.

I'm not sure if I'll be able to go on vacation. Right now I'm working and trying to save up for rent and tuition for September and if I have enough money then I'll take a trip.

If I can, I'll go visit my friend who lives in Amsterdam.

What makes you think work stops at the grave? Get ready for a cubicle farm in the Great Suburb in the Sky. ;)

I have two weeks of no school because of the summer program I'm in. So I don't think I'll be going anywhere. Also, I lack money...a lot (fucking prom wasting it all away:mad:).
Before I entered the thread, I thought maybe it would be about favorite vacations/vacation places. My favorite is St John in the US Virgin Islands. I love it so much down there.

Chandy's vacation thread made me want to make this one. What was everyones favorite vacation or vacation place (like the single trip or the place)?

My favorite place to go is St John in the US Virgin Islands. It's so beautiful down there. I really wish I could go again. When I'm there, I can throw all my worries away and just relax. (except worrying about certain sea life :().

so far Berlin has been the best holiday I've ever had, though I won't rule out the South of France (great place if you want an adventure)

but I think the best vacations are places that you have never been before

I've only really been on 4 vacations in my life...

Vancouver...Nice but kinda boring

India...fun, but it was about 10 years ago so i don't really remember

New York...Way too big, confusing and crowded...but I got to see my cousins who I only see like once every year or two

Ottawa...school trip but by far the most interesting

Homeschool officially ends Friday, my classes end tomorrow, and Hubby's end on June 5. We have a good month and a half off. I have no clue what we are doing.....other than cleaning out the house and having a big huge garage sale.

I am trying to talk hubby into taking the girl's camping.......but he isn't much of an outdoors type of guy due to his being allergic to just about any kind of thing that might be blowing in the air....can't afford for him to have another 'I can't breathe' attack somewhere where my cell phone doesn't have service....that wasn't fun last time. I suck at CPR when it's someone I care about.

I think we might go stay in a hotel and just wake them up late at night and drive out to the country and star gaze.....that will be a good compromise. At least then I get a hot tub right?

the best holiday i've had was the trip i took to new zealand, 2 months blowing the money i'd saved up working the 6 months previous, driving about, visiting all sorts of places, doing so many different things, meeting so many different people. i also got to see the whole of the NZ round of that year's World Rally Championships, that was awesome.

The best family holiday i ever went on was to Monchique in Portugal, just a really beautiful part of the world and i loved the food. last summer i went with my mum to Quebec because she was running the Marathon des Deux Rives that they have there. she's no runner and she wanted my support, i got a free 10 day holiday out of it and again Quebec is a really beautiful place and the national parks too (Jacques Cartier and Hautes Gorges in particular). even managed to not kill each other too despite spending practically 24 hours per today together for 10 days.

Attended the Highland Games in Scotland last time I was traversing the British Isles. That was a vacation I'll never forget. It also included a trip to the town with one of the longest names in the world, Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch). That's 51 letters for ye (ch and ll are one letter in Welsh). I also visited two important hills while I was on that trip: Senlac Hill, now Battle, East Sussex, where the Battle of Hastings took place, and the Hill of Tara, during the portion that I traveled through Eire. Quite a trip.

Funny you should mention it, I'm going traveling on vacation tomorrow! I'm going across the country to Portland, Oregon for about 5 days. I was going to make a thread for people to tell me what is fun to do there. I think I still will!

And taking frequent alcohol and party-related trips to Philly.

Obviously, every summer we go to the shore. It's like.. mandatory.

I think we're either going to travle Route 6 in PA, or rent a house somewhere in New England.

Then in August, some people I know are renting a condo right on the beach, so I might be going there.

I've heard that most of the Istrian peninsula is beautiful (we have rented a bungalow near Porec). I have never been to Venice but cannot be so close without paying a visit. I have heard it can smell a bit in the hot weather, and is expensive as well

Wow, you'll be right where my family used to spend all our Easter and Spring vacations in the 80s... It's breathtakingly beautiful there. Make sure to visit the Plitvice lakes (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plitvice)!

Venice is very, very, very touristy. It's crowded, hectic, a bit smelly, overpriced... but if you want to see something interesting, pay a visti to Murano (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murano). The majority of tourists never gets there, and I found it an absolutely fascinating place.

What is this 'vacation' you speak of? In my country, we work 52 weeks a year, and this 'vacation' is considered to be 'for sissies.' Feh.

I would be very happy getting up, going to work, and coming home every weekday of every year, honestly. I would be immensely happy if my last vacation ever turns out to be my honeymoon just a few months ago. Sure, it was nice and everything, but I've just lost all desire to travel. And time spent at home idle should be used to rest, recuperate, or run errands.

Plus, travel is just so overpriced. You're better off staying home anyway.

Nope, not yet.

But that is a nifty way to find your way - as long as you don't have to stop for a brew at each... Then you'll never get anywhere.

I am going to a cousin's wedding a few hours' ride away via rail. It will just be a weekend trip, and is not only within my country, but also within my province. I am not taking any time off from my cubework, so weekend adventures are my limit.

Maybe I will cook up another camping weekend with some friends, or another local trip. I am in a very tourist-friendly city anyway (Ottawa), so I will have lots to do.

Tahoe is fantastic, in my opinion; I'll probably be going up for a week this summer. I haven't been back since last summer though, and I'm guessing the water level won't be nearly as high as it was last summer.
