Commercials that don't even try to make sense

I'm just sitting here, minding my own business waiting for the show to come back and I see a commercial. It starts off with riot police facing a huge angry mob. All of a sudden a guy runs up and hits a cop with a bag looking thing... a pillow. Then, everyone busts out pillows and it's a giant fucking pillow fight between riot police and apparently the whole city block along with an angry mob. A pillow fight.

What is it advertising?
Vodka.

That's kind of stupid. What brand of vodka was it?

Anyway, remember the old commercials for Calvin Klein's Obsession?

you know the one I hate (and yes, I will keep posting it until they quit airing it, and yes I did write the company........no response)

it's that drain cleaner one

"what does this look like?"
"water"
"doesn't water go right down the drain?"
"yeah! so how is it 'grabbing the clog'?!"

:headbang:

I have been able lately to suppress my reaction, which is to yell at the TV

"IF WATER GOES RIGHT DOWN YOUR DRAIN YOU DON'T HAVE A CLOG!"

freaks.

It was for some brownish alcohol that wasn't beer. It was going on and on about character.

Basically, the first time I saw it ("What is character? Is it something undefinable?) I ended one of the guy's sentences with "Mr. Anderson."

It fit rather well.

I'm not sure this qualifies as a commercial that doesn't make sense, but I found it bizarre nonetheless. I can't even recall what it was advertising... I think some sort of headache remedy, where they say 'APPLY DIRECTLY TO FOREHEAD' about 20 times during the add.

APPLY DIRECTLY TO FOREHEAD!

APPLY DIRECTLY TO FOREHEAD!

APPLY DIRECTLY TO FOREHEAD!

I've only seen it once, and met one other person who's seen it.

so all those stupid commercials are probably more focused on #2.

there are products that I will NEVER buy, because the commercial annoyed me so much

the Dodge Neon was one of those. I don't even know if they make that car anymore, but the commercial annoyed me beyond belief, that even if someone delivered one free to my driveway, I'd make them take it back.

The head on commercials are like that too...even though I suffer from severe, chronic migraines...I just can't bring myself to buy it.

I have a few friends that teach junior high and they say that the place is thick with the smell of Axe body spray. There's a body spray out, I can't remember the name, that takes the opposite, well, not opposite, but more reserved approach. It's a hot chick in kinda sexy but businessy atire who starts off (among other ads) far from the camera telling the camera, "I don't want to smell your body spray from here," moves closer, "Or here," moves closer, "Or even here." Then she leans into the camera and says, "I want to smell you...from right here," then walks off. Sort of a counter to the 'shower yourself in this crap and women will flock to you like it's the bachae (or however that's spelled) but a good kind."

A list of non-sensical commercials that anger me? I'd be happy to share.

1)The Head-On commercials, before they started making fun of themselves.
2)The Honda Fit commercials. No, Honda, the Fit is not go.
3)Subway Dinner Theatre. Subway is under permanent boycott from me for that one.
4)All Axe Bodyspray commercials, and essentially any commercial that thinks there's a positive correlation between my willingness to buy their product from an ad and the proximity they put a scantily clad woman to their product in that ad.
5)That women's sanitary pad commercial where the Uma Therman looking girl(maybe it really is Uma Thermon?) leaps 20 feet into the air and uses the pad to collect all the water spewing out of the nearby water-tower. Okay, it's absorbant, I surrender!
6)More of a genre than one commercial, but here goes - the tendency for men in commercials to be portrayed as buffoons and imbeciles. Little gets me riled as much as the reverse sexism we permit in our media.
7)That commercial with the brunette talking seductively into the camera in a diatribe that ends with - 'you know what really separates the men from the boys? I do.' I can't imagine it selling anything effectively, a theory reinforced by the fact that I have absolutely no memory of what, in fact, it was selling.
8)Pop-Tarts commercials. First of all, that minimalist animation style really bothers me. Honestly my little cousins could draw better than that, so I know an actual cartoonist should be able to give me better. No, it's not 'hip' or 'edgy' or 'in touch with the youth demographic'... it's just bad animation. Not to mention the commercial's plots themselves are shit.
9)The US Goverment's Above the Influence campaign. Granted, they're fighting an uphill battle by trying to convince American teenagers a substance only midly harmful to them is much more dangerous, but these commercials are so bad I'm beginning to think they're the product of an undercover pro-marijuanna agent. Same complaints about the art, but the plots are even less relevant and more bizzare than poptarts commercials. A guy losing his girlfriend to an alien because he's smoking weed? ... really? I sometimes wonder why we're losing Iraq, then I remember the same government prosecuting that war thought these commercials were a good idea, and I understand. Then get simultaneously worried and sad.

Sometimes I sit around and wonder how these commercials could have been pitched to a room of business savvy executives, and everyone agreeing it's a good idea to spend thousands of dollars putting it on the air.

Yeah but if she convinces pubescent kids to ease back on the spray and leave at least a little in the can then more power to her...

I wish they could beam her straight to their eyeballs and bypass mine. If I have to hear her breathy repetitiveness ONE more time I will have to go 100% straight, and nobody wants that. :p

Oh man, there are these alcohol commercials where there is this rich black guy with poofy hair talking about how rich he is in an extremely snobby and condecending voice. Thats all that the commercial is, a rich guy laughing and talking about being rich. I cant think of what its advertising (the advert failed miserably) but its sooo annoying. I want to reach through the screen and strangle him, not try to emulate him.

All I remember is that it was for Gin. I found the first one kind of funny(I believe it had an old man sculpting an ice cube into a perfect cube). After that, it just got OLD, and fast.

Vodka.

Why are you watching TV?

God, I hate that little judgmental prick of a dog. And did they really pull that "I could quit any time" "why don't you quit now?" crap? Fuck you, dude. Quit eating pancakes.

No shit. Fucking awful commercials. "Gee, my dog won't like me if I smoke weed. Better quit now." I don't smoke weed, so I'm not angry at the anti-weed message, but the stupidity of those commercials kind of pisses me off.

I don't watch TV. My kids do on occasion, but since my wife and I don't, it seems to be catching (the idea that TV isn't worth watching, and your time is better spent doing something else).

My 13 year old daughter doesn't watch TV, anymore.

The two younger boys are free to watch TV. But we've found that they have limited the time, because there's nothing worth watching.

We have cable, so we can have an Internet connection.

We just don't buy any channels beyond basic cable.

And we lock out Disney, Nick, and Cartoon Network.

Our kids grew up with only on-air broadcast channels and without video games. It's remarkable how little that affected their lives, i.e. they are all college grads, all gainfully employed, and all firmly embrace the Libertarian philosophy of small government and personal responsibility.

Definitely preferable to waiting for the cop to come save you from the criminal, the city to come save you from the rising flood waters, the state to save you from the high price of gasoline, or the federal government to save you from poverty in your old age.

But we are afraid of the results of Socialism. We redistribute enough of our wealth as it is. Why encourage legislators to do more damage than they have already done?

Somehow this nation became the most successful nation on earth, in spite of it's rampant Capitalism. I'd rather see how much greater we can become, instead of settling into the mediocrity that envelopes much of the Socialist world.

Also, as an added bonus.

Banned German Coffee commercial:

Don't watch it if you have heart problems.

The first one: That is the most pointless 30 seconds of advertising I have ever seen.
