Ah, come on, 10,000 words is no mean feat in 20 hours. Especially when, beforehand, I knew literally nothing about the subject.

I'm just really pleased to have it in on time, despite having no help from anybody, and only starting a day and a bit ago.

What was it on, out of interest?
Nadkor
22-05-2007, 13:13
The topic was responses to the dissolution of the Russian Duma in 1906 and the dissolution of the Constituent Assembly in 1918.

The title itself was more long-winded, but that was gist of it.

Massive procrastination overcome in a ridiculously short time period.

This was a doctoral dissertation, then?

Unfortunately, no. Exams still to come...plus repeats next year. But they don't really involve much effort.

Nah, just a batchelors degree. And yeah, 6 month procrastination overcome in a day and a bit. I'm pretty pleased.

10 - 12,000. I had about 10,500.

Wish I'd done mine on that. Mine was so boring (and utter shite). But I managed to get mine in two hours before the deadline. :p

Amazing how the realisation that you only have two days to write 10000 words sharpens the mind. I swear the only point of the essays I had to write at uni were for getting in practice at writing a lot in a short amount of time.

Sure...;p Congrats, finishing off those last little bits before the degree is pretty much the coolest feeling. Until the "well great, now what do I do?" sets in...

I kid, I kid. Congratulations. Nadkor. Hopefully said dissertation will be graded quite well.

Aww, who am I kidding? Of course it will be! You're one of the brightest people I know, even if you won't admit it to yourself.

Gravedig ahoy!

Yeah, that thread about the success of threads that someone started lead me quite predictably to checking what the most recent threads I'd started were. This was one of them (almost a year ago, how bad is that?).

I got 72% in the dissertation. That's a First, the best classification you can get.

As some of you may know, I'm now off studying law elsewheres. Somehow, it's even more interesting and enjoyable than history. And I'm doing pretty well in it. Good times :)

Yeah, this confused me, too. A Dissertation here refers specifically to the PhD thesis; 10 000 words doesn't usually cover the bibliography. :p

Where does the percentage come from? Did 72% of the professors like it? Was 28% utter lies? I's confused.

Dude, congrats and I´m impressed. I had to work with my dessertation for 7 months, prior to that, I was crafting the information with my councelor for almost a year. Add to that the sending the finished project to a book bounder and then presenting it in front of a judges´ panel...

30 minutes of your time, and just getting at it last Sunday, either you´re a genius or incredibly lucky. Hopefully both.;)

I've been working on my dissertation proper since the end of March and doing the preliminary work for it since November of last year. You arts students have all the freakin' luck.

The English Gothic Revival & Frank Lloyd Wright's Praerie style present in the architectural designs of Czech Antonin Nechodoma: A History of Hybrid styles in the Caribbean and the United States.

What made you choose it?

Wow! I'd run upstairs to get my hat so I could take it off to you.

What made you choose it?

I like to complicate myself.

Nah, the reason why I chose that topic was because I've always been enamored of all things Medieval and since our dissertations had to be of a contemporary topic, Gothic Revival was the closest to the Middle Ages I could get. And to give my professors more meat, I went out of my way in comparing the style of Frank Lloyd Wright to the style of Antonin Nechodoma, who studied Wright. Then it was a matter of distinguishing both from each other, take a look at adaptations and spend a fortune in traveling to the US and the Caribbean to photograph their work.:p

I must add, though, that my councelor hated my dissertation. Of course, she wanted me to go with the ethymology and evolution of the word style in Art History. But the director of the Arts department loved my work so he made my councelor bend to his will.:D
