When was the last time this happened?

Every TV show does this, they have a "musical" episode where everyone apparently breaks out in song either as a group or by themselves, and sometimes I just wonder, how often does this really happen? I've been alive for 23 years, and I've never had the need to break out in song, and my friends never broke out in songs either. Did anyone or a group of people ever just break out into songs without any reason? Have you guys ever experience this?

yes

the story begins a few years ago when I watched some program where a guy had to get a kiss using a romantic song (I forget which), he sung the first line to a raffle ticket seller who sung it back and he want in and got a good smooch

last Friday I think

I was at this shady back alley pub (being 17 this is compulsory) debating the various pickup lines when a certain memory popped into my head "watch this" I said with a smile only a man who has been eating lemons could pull off

I walk up to this woman at the snooker table (yes I know) and sing the first song that comes into my head:

(in a voice that sounded like Phil Mitchell due to sore throat) "at first I was afraid I was petrified"....

to which I got the reply: (sung very well) "Kept thinking' I could never live without you by my side"

I promptly smiled and soon discovered that we had much in common in terms of how much we hate Irish theme pubs thus I made a good friend :)

Call to power here and I had an impromptu sing along of MacArthur's Park on here a few weeks ago, if that counts.

Was it spontaneous?

Was it spontaneous?

I'd say so.

It's melting in the dark. :(

Ah, now this is your problem. You have to go with the flow, pick up the next line and damn the consequences. If you miss the lead, it's no wonder you're missing out on the sing-a-longs. :p

I sing in the car. Does that count? Usually something by Concrete Blond, Whitesnake, Queensryche, U2 or Queen. Sometimes, I'll even sing in the shower - then I go for show tunes.

But, to burst spontaneously into song in public where other people can hear me... *shudders*

If someone else were to burst spontaneously into song in public where other people could hear (unless, of course, he/she were a professional and I paid to hear them) ... *shudders*

Once More, with Feeling (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Once_More%2C_with_Feeling_%28Buffy_episode%29) the best musical episode I've ever seen. Honestly the musical episode bit doesn't seem to be done that much.

I wonder how it is we develop this documentary expectation from film that a story must only present what happens in the most direct and literal sense. We can have space ships and dragons and magic and aliens but if the film tells the story in abstract like a musical, then that's nutty-of all the things we can accept in a film (and some people do seem to have this shortcoming with theater as well, which is even more perplexing...)that one goes too far...well, I do know when but I don't want to re-write old college papers...

I sing all the time. Not very well, probably, but I've never heard myself.

Nobody ever joins in, though.

I only break out into song if it fits the situation; usually one of those all purpose Simpsons songs work. :)
