I'm in a Pink Floyd kind of mood, so I decided to start a poll.

I like Animals. Pigs on the Wing parts 1 and 2 are nice openers and closers, Dogs is incredible, Pigs (Three Different Ones) is...strange, and Sheep is...Sheep is amazing.

We've had one of these threads not to long ago didn't we?

Well, whatever. I would have to say the Wall, Wish you were here, Dark Side of the moon, and the piper at the gates of dawn...oh Pink Floyd you are like a diamond in the sky...a crazy diamond

It's really hard to choose one. I don't care much for their really early stuff, and while The Wall has some great music on it, the overall theme is too personal for me to identify with. I like the post-Waters Floyd as well, but it's very different, as if it's a different band. I'd have to go with Dark Side of Moon, but ask me some other time and I might say something different.

Dark Side of the Moon is the only one I've heard, so I'm going with that. :)

Ah, my mistake. The only Pink Floyd album I've heard is a live album. I had to check my collection. I got it at a garage sale for $1 and it has about 30 songs on two discs. It's not bad.

I've never understood the appeal.

Taste varies, and talent and meaning is subjective.
The appeal of a band, or artist will vary from person to person, so the appeal sort of exists only in the individual listener's mind.

I like listening to it, because it makes me think I'm crazy...:D

I'll go with Ummagumma because I've read that it bears similarities to the 13th Floor Elevators.

He actually likes the cover of Comfortably Numb done by the Scissor Sisters, and Fergie. You have to calibrate for his tastes accordingly.

But that would mean me having to develop social skills, and expanding my taste of music...

With Fass you seriously have to not worry about it. There will be no pleasing him, he makes that a matter of pride.

I just sought out the aformentioned version ... I imagine David Gilmour wept when he heard it. My God.

he liked it:

In 2004, a disco-oriented cover of the song was released by Scissor Sisters on Polydor, a remix by Canadian electronic musician and DJ/producer Tiga. Although the cover (sung entirely in falsetto) has irked some Floyd fans, David Gilmour and Nick Mason[2] have expressed a liking for the group; Roger Waters is also known to have contacted the band to congratulate them on the version.[3]

i remember when that first came out someone said to me "it's hideous... you just don't touch the floyd", which i thought was pretty pathetic considering it was endorsed by them in the first place.

Don't worry about it. It'll happen when it happens. And with what I said if he bothers to look in here and feels up to it he'll go after me before you with what I implied about his taste in music.

So what is your appeal with Pink Floyd? Does it appeal to you?
It does indeed. I liked it better when Waters and Gilmour could get along for more than ten seconds and as such picked Wish You Where Here. I like the idea of concept albums and extended works, albums I can play all the way through and I feel like I've heard something develop. Harmonically I like Gilmour's asthetic when tempered by Waters lyrics. By themselves I haven't been as into it, Waters albums' have been almost recycled musicly. And Gilmour's lyrics have been almost comedic (Take it Back?)

They have a willingness to experiment with sound and to make part of what they do theater without being silly in the way Alice Cooper or KISS are. Even without Waters the show I saw in the 90s was quite a specticle. It was a good show. I like the music and the presentation was enjoyable as well. If one of those where off it wouldn't have been worth it.

The songwriting is unbelievable, they can play their instruments, they can sing, and are generally amazing.

Also, they can get fucking insane. Go listen to...what's it called "Several Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together in a Cave and Grooving with a Pict". Is that right?

My favorite album is Animals, It just blows you away every time you here it.

I agree Pink Floyd was willing to try and re-invent themselves constantly, and try diffirent styles of sound, and subject matter that ranged from personal to the existential, like Barret's failing health in their early days, or mental illness itself. I've enjoyed some of their newer work like Division Bell, and songs like Keep Talking, but its the early Syd Barret days I like the best with its 1960's LSD trip on wheels.

Theres just so much for me that it evolves into mysticism, and exsistential thinking.

I have to be honest I loved The Wall, but its meaning has really broken down for me. Glimour pretty much said that the Wall was merely Water's way of pointing out why his life sucked and demonizing the world for his own insecurity and poor childhood and the such. Its when i hear about the internal struggles within a band that really dilutes the meaning of their songs. Its almost hard to escape, but for me its like learning Santa isnt real when you hear about your favorite bands fighting over the content and the writing of their music.

I loved the Song "Dogs" from the album animals because whenever I play it my dogs can hear the dogs in the song barking, and they freak out and cry. I can't play it over my stereo anymore its that bad for them.

My head tells me to vote Dark Side of the Moon...saw it in Detroit when they played it in its entirety after having not done so after 20 years.

Dark is awesome...but.

I voted Wish you Were Here, because in all honesty the most beautiful woman I have ever known loves that album and when ever I here anything from it I think of her...she is the one that got away as it were and that album is my little bit.

Echoes is a greatest hits album, and therefore doesn't really count.
