Would You Ever...

Darknovae

let your teenage son/daughter on NSG?

Would you? Seriously?

This needs an explanation. Obviously I said teenage because there wouldn't be many under-13's here (except for Orlzenheimerness), and as for adults... well, you can't really stop them, can you?

But to those of you who have already seen NSG... would you let your kids on here?

Just cuirous...

Poll is here!

What? Yes. Of course. Duh. Why wouldn't I? It's up to them - if/when I have them that is - what websites they access via their neural implant networks. :p

Fuck, yes.

A teenage son or daughter who couldn't argue a political or philosophical point effectively would be a bore.

Sure I would. I might be on at the same time the first few times and I'd probably talk to them about it and try to make it educational but yes.

Seriously, as soon as my kids are self-confident and self-aware enough to behave responsibly and freely - then they can do what they like. Sure, I'll be there to give them a hand if they ask for it or need it, but why would I monitor their internet useage? That's just creepy and controlling in my books.

Kids are people too!

Probably with considerable supervision. I mean, it's certainly going to give them the opportunity to learn a thing or two about debating and possibly a few things their school or me and my (hypothetical) wife haven't gotten around to teaching them yet.
Plus, given that there already are a bunch of teens on hear, who tend to be a tad cliquish, they'd probably have a nice cozy place to hang out and shoot the breeze as well, when they're not playing outside with their (hypothetical) friends.

Or they'll spend the rest of their teenage years quoting the OP and adding nothing more than "Lolz" <.< >.>

Of course, I would argue that plenty of people much older then that are just as immature. Some fifty year olds should be treated as children, and some eleven year olds should be able to vote. But that's not how our society works.

I don't have kids.

I can't answer the question. Any opinion I might give about what I'd allow teenage kids to do would be a wild guess. It would depend on the kid, and after 12+ years of parenthood my attitude would certainly be so different that ... I can't even guess.

But I will say that there may be many kids here, impersonating adults. Telling people that you're nine would be a great way of having your opinions ignored, while possibly attracting the wrong kind of attention.

It says over there <---- that I have MSN. Not sure if it works yet?

What if you happen to be nine and present a good argument? That would be quite impressive for a nine year old to give a well-thought out opinion on neo-marxist ideals and their application into a labor based economy...that would be interesting...

I'm happy for NSGers to know my age, because being 43 neither qualifies nor disqualifies me to have an opinion. It's a bit on the high end of ages here it seems, but meh.

There are other things I'd prefer to keep secret, out of a strong sense that I'd be 'ad hominemed' for them.

Like Martin Luther King said: "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character"
Replace "nation" by "world" and replace "the colour of their skin " with "anything " and you've got pretty much my dream.

That's not the world we live in though ...
