Gravedigging

A Beautiful World

What's so wrong with it? I find it entertaining, and yes, refreshing to see an old thread come back every now and then. And yet, it seems that everytime one is dredged up...it is locked. Por quoi?

Could it have something to do with the fact that no one cares anymore?

SO why lock it? If no one cares...ignore it...

Clutter. The same reason why non-General threads are kicked out of General and into other forums.

general has 72,345 threads. if we allowed gravedigging it would be all we ever did.

Hmm. Well, I suppose that's it then. Can't say I approve, but at least I have an answer.

In a way, if we could reasonably maintain multi-hundred page threads it might make sense to condense everything down into threads by topic and just make people post on topic in those to continue discussions.

General would then have like 10 threads:
Global warming megathread
Abortion rights megathread
Religion megathread
etc.

Because it's against the forum rules.

Any rule without exception is no rule, but a failure in judgment. I thought it was more an unspoken agreement, though at any rate I suppose we must bend to the will of the cybergods...

Technically if the gravedigging is to continue the debate that is going on in the thread, it would probably be allowed, but if the thread has descended into spam anyway, the gravedigging post would probably also be spam.

Haha, no I was trying to compose a mental image of what that would be like. Call it thinking outloud, on erm, typing, ah, you meant what I knew.

Hmm. Perhaps if we created "Topics" under which to post each of the threads on a particular subject?

*sigh* Only too true, I suppose.

yeah but it would ruin everything if you suddenly realized that your brilliant point on global warming had already been made 357 times. only the newness of the thread allows anyone to post "abortion is against god's law" yet again.

Also, it's an exception if you can contribute new information to the debate. Proof that Iraq had WMDs, for example, could revive any "Iraq didn't have WMD" thread...

...though mostly in theory, as it would indeed warrant a thread of its own :)

I should think the enormity of such a discovery would warrant the latter most assuredly :)

...and yea I think I'll revive the thread just to be nostalgic...

It now looks likely that George W Bush and Tony Blair are intent on going to war very soon. The Stop the War Coalition would ask all groups and individuals to start making preparations for this now.
The metric system is French.

Now there's another reason for you far rightists to hate it!

(Metric kicks Imperial's arse, btw)
There's been a lot of talk, some from the mods/admins of this forum, that the word "Faggot" should henceforth be censored.
I feel almost as young as I did when I joined. I only have around 4,800 posts.

If Bush is re-elected, I'm leaving the country.
a recent discussion made me curious as to how many people really were in love with the first person they slept with. Not only no, but I was trying to think of ways to break up with her. Instead we stayed together for another year before she realized the relationship was extrodinairely lopsided.
