Is there meant to be a legal limit to how many kids a carer can look after?

I know its 2 or 3 kids to one adult here but don't know how it works over there

I worked in a day care when I was in high school.

The requirements are different when the children are "sleeping" As long as someone else is in the BUILDING, it's ok for one person to be in the room with them. (at least in Massachusetts, 15 years ago)

I had a child who never EVER slept. There are so many ways to either settle a child, or move them, so they don't bother the other children.

Naptimes for all children is an outdated concept anyway. Some children get enough sleep at night, that they don't need a nap. Any toddler that isn't tired is going to rebel at being required to lie quietly, with nothing to do. However, I can't IMAGINE physically gagging a child to quiet them. That is someone who had no business working with children.

Makes me glad I stay home with my children.

My friend was that one kid who never wanted to nap in preschool.

The teacher told him to take a nap and tried to force him to, but he kicked her.

Then he got suspended from preschool. :p

I never got suspended but I never got my after nap snack when the other kids did.

It's not my fault I slept at night. I hated the stupid cots they made us nap on; no pillow and very uncomfy. I hated the whole experience.

I too hated nap time in pre-school. It was a waste of my valuable time that I could waste at something more destructive... I mean, constructive.

In Oklahoma it's 3 kids under 5 per worker, she had too many kids. I hope she goes to jail, there is no reason to treat a person like she did that kid.

Yeah I don't disagree that she did something terrible but it is a side issue that should be addressed

Nap time means that the teachers don't have to do any actual work. It is for their benefit I think, not the kids.

In addition to the death of a child, another sad part of this case is the day care center had 29 previous violations including an alleged case of abuse. :mad: Why wasn't this place shut down a long time ago? DHS found this child when they went to the day care on an unannounced visit.

She has been arrested and charged with first degree murder and child endangerment.

As a parent, I must say that she should be glad to be in police custody, cause if that was my kid I'd be gunning :mp5: for her.

Kind of odd, I thought with murder you have to have premeditation to kill which doesn't seem to fit with this. She was incredibly stupid and should have never been put around kids though, that is undeniable.

Perhaps somebody should invent a more safe and sane child restraint system.
