Tied between Schindler's List, In Harm's Way and Tora, Tora, Tora. With honorable mention to the Lord of the Rings trilogy (although I found Frodo annoying, I thought Samwise was the real hero). Coffee and Cigarettes - short sketches about smoking and drinking coffee...the highlight being Iggy Pop talking to Tom Waits
Slapshot - Paul Newman and the Hanson brothers...the best sports film ever!
TRON - Who doesn't love TRON!!
Old Boy - Korean revenge flick...love it
The Machinist - Christian Bale slimmed down to nothing to play this insomniac
Napoleon Dynamite - nerd classic...the dancing scene at the end cracks me up every time!

My top ten, listed alphabetically:

American Splendor
Benny and Joon
Dirty Work
Monthy Python and the Holy Grail
Moulin Rouge
Napoleon Dynamite
Sleepless in Seattle
The Royal Tenenbaums
When Harry Met Sally

Impossible to have just one...so a little selection of ten in no particular order..
Babettes Feast - Amazing atmospheric film
American History X - Required viewing in all schools
The Longest Day - Yes indeed..I think its one of the best US WW2 movies from the US
Star Wars - Pure unadulterated space opera
Casablanca - to many reasons
Holy Grail - well doh!
Apocalypse Now - Best Vietnam film I have seen
Lord of War - pretty obvious
Ronin - Euros can also make great cop/chase flicks
The Great Dictator - well doh!

I consider Apocalypse Now to be the best movie ever made, in my opinion (one has to include that disclaimer these days). My favourite movie, however, is either Pirates of the Caribbean (1, not 2, 2 sucked) or perhaps the original Ghostbusters movie. They were both such fun movies, and at the end of the day, isn't that why we watch movies?

Other than that, I rate Monty Python highly, and I'll always enjoy a good Muppets film :D

My favourite films (in no order, obviously, as that would require a coherence far beyond my limited capabilities:)) are: Evolution, Crash, Starter for Ten, About A Boy, all the Shrek films, Madagascar, Happy Feet.
Oh, and because I like moaning, the worst film I ever saw was "The Perfect Storm". Im sure it wasn't the intention of the film makers for the viewer to think that drowning was far, far too good a death for the painfully irritating characters, but that was certainly my reaction.

She only looks freaky for the last half hour or so, when she grows wolf-tits on her abdomen. Lethal post-coital interaction is good enough for insects and they outnumber us hugely.

I dont. For me, there is a huge diference between your favorite movie and the movie you think is the best one. Now, a favorite movie for me is one that youre somewhat emotionaly atached, while the "best" movie is something that goes beyong your subjectivity.
Now, I do think its weird for someone to say which is the "BEST MOVIE EVER MADE", but I dont think its weird if its their favorite. Of course, as long as they know that their favorite is special to them, not as an universal value like all those that say movie X is the BEST OF ALL TIMES (which happens all the time in IMDB).
Ooooh, there's too many...
For today, I'll go with Aliens, Dog Soldiers, Lord Of The Rings, Star Wars and Starship Troopers. And Die Hard, just to mix things up a bit :)
