Musically tortured

Sadly, the price one has to pay to work with teens is having to put up with teen music. Normally, at least for me, that isn't so much a problem as most of my students rock out to J-pop's various idols and I can tune those out. But today... today was sports day at my junior high school and my students felt that such a special day needed SPECIAL music; so I was forced to listen to repeated playings of Avril Lavigne songs.

I thought my brain would melt from the vapid bubblegum pop before the day was over.

So what musical torture have you endured lately?

Ouch. You're right, that probably is worse than Jap-Pop.

I've been subject to the unending horrors of asian karaoke on a few occasions, to cite a perhaps similar situation. :p

It isn't really lately but a couple of years ago I had to go work at the European Bagpipe Championships. A whole day filled with an endless background drone.

I like listening to them individually or as an individual band but when everyone is practicing at the same time is painful

everyone who plays their car sterio loudly with the windows rolled down is committing an act of violance against the most basic of all human rights.

and ought to be prosicutable accordingly,
REGAURDLESS of the KIND of "music", whatEVER it might happen to be, that they are playing!

all sounds, other then those of nature and machinery, and other the those i have chosen myself, ARE equaly "acoustical torture".

disturbing the peace is NOT EVER "victumless".

hipp hopp and hee haw are my two least favorite genres
that and the bias of clear channel playlists

even rap and country, don't get my wrong, there's an occasional good riff in every genre to, but there's no damd good at all, in forcing anything audible on anyone else.

even my own tecno-ambient that i love, or any thing else

In any music there is some sound, no matter how small, deserving of your respect.

If you can't hear it, get closer to the loudspeakers. It may be inside the loudspeakers. Use a pocketknife.

Now you hear it.

My girlfriend occasionally sings along to things... I want to say "Please, don't sing. You can't sing. You somehow miss every single note, in the worst possible way. It's painful. Please stop. Please."
But I just can't bring myself to do it :(

The worse the music the louder it must be played apparently. I'm forced to listen to country all day at work. I don't mind country really, but honestly a little variety folks, all I ask. The tear in my beer shit gets old quick.

I'm trying to figure out a way to destroy my neighbor's car stereo without getting caught. The wall rattling bass every time he comes and goes is obnoxious as hell. I'm somewhat placated knowing he'll be deaf soon.

You want true festering crap?

How about the song "I'd like to check you for ticks."

Haha Brad Paisley, I'd never paid attention to the lyrics 'cause I tend to tune it out, just noticed what that song said a couple days ago.

Not 'lately' but I used to work at a record store and while most of the people there had tastes that could at least be interesting, sometimes we where required to play stuff that was part of a desperate attempt to avoid admitting that the recording company had made a horrible mistake in giving that person or group a contract.

The vast majority of songs written in the last 50 years is really quite shit. A lot of the time I can just ignore it/not put the radio onto stations that play it/attempt to get away. In my uni accomodation I am opposite the two guys who play music loudly with their doors open, often seemingly competing between each other. Most of the time I'm not bothered as long as I can hear my own music clearly enough, one of the guys actually plays reasonably ok songs. However the other guy has some of the most nausiating African folk music I've ever heard, which I thoroughly dislike.

Also, mobile phone ringtones that massacre a piece of classical music are particularly annoying, as well as shitty arrangements of good pieces such as Barber's Adagio for strings arranged for saxophone ensemble. Hearing children play anything is rather painful, and also hearing someone playing badly something I know well. Grease. High school musical. Lloyd Webber. Abba. Any Eurovision song. Well, you see what I mean...

Once upon a time, back in High School, the 'African American Culture Club' decided that since it was Black History Month that they would blast rap music in the cafeteria. So loudly you could literally hear it across the campus.
I dont know about the rest of you, but there are two genres of music I cannot stand. One is country. The other is rap.
I swear if I'd had a hammer and a ladder I would've smashed the cafeterias speakers.

To be honest, whenever people play music in public, especially at major events, it is torture. No matter what the event, it's either shitty pop, shitty pop-punk, shitty hip hop, shitty trash metal, shitty nu metal, or shitty classical music.

It's not that there aren't good songs in some of those genres (classical music, hip hop, and 80's pop-punk all have some good music), it's that no matter where you go, the music that will be chosen will be terribly. It will be one more repetition of U2's most recent shitty pop piece, or Dr. McRapsandsoundslikeatotalmoron's most recent explanation of how rich and/or violent he is.

That's awesome. Sadly, when bands tour the U.S., they frequently don't come to my city. I was surprised when Blue Cheer did.

Most of my favorite bands rarely even come to my state. When they do they always go to Charlotte, which is 8 hours away from where I live.

I do like a few hip-hop songs, but VERY few.
I actually hate popular music now. It's always about horrible breakups, popping a cap in some wigga's ass, or being filthy rich. Either that or being a stupid whore. I don't know why American pop culture likes the crappiest "music"...

Errr... the very northeastern part. Near the OBX, but not far away from Virginia.

That sucks...but then, a lot of bands skip Australia entirely as well for years at a time. Though when they actually do tour here, i'm lucky that Melbourne is always included. This was actually the first time Boris had toured Australia, so it was really cool. (and the place was packed, I had no idea they - and well, that stuff in general - had so many fans. Even when I bought a St Vitus album the next day the guy at the record store picked up on my taste and asked me if I went. Maybe there's hope yet. ;))

Did you actually see Blue Cheer? That'd be a show i'd definitely go to.

:(

In middle school they used to play rap and hip-hop and crappy pop music at all the dances.

:(

They still play that crap at my high school. 'tis why I refuse to go to any of their "social events." I like my eardrums.

Oh, sure, I'm a drummer, but at least I know what variety is.

I only went to the dances to hang out with the few friends I had in middle school...

I haven't been to any high school dances though, and if they're going to play that crap then I don't want to.

That sucks...but then, a lot of bands skip Australia entirely as well for years at a time. Though when they actually do tour here, i'm lucky that Melbourne is always included. That's true. At least I have the option of going to Cleveland or D.C. They're only 4-5 hours away.

This was actually the first time Boris had toured Australia, so it was really cool. (and the place was packed, I had no idea they - and well, that stuff in general - had so many fans. Was it a large venue?

Even when I bought a St Vitus album the next day the guy at the record store picked up on my taste and asked me if I went. Maybe there's hope yet. ;))Awesome. Which album did you get?

Did you actually see Blue Cheer? That'd be a show i'd definitely go to.Yes, I did. It was awesome. I figured this might be the last time they toured, so I had to go...lol.

Most were too afraid of me to befriend me. :D 'sides, I heard the middle school played the same crap anyways.

I haven't been to any high school dances though, and if they're going to play that crap then I don't want to.

Same here. I literally get headaches from rap and it's bastard cousins, so I stay away from them as much as possible.

Some club I went to in Norwich recently... it was an experience offensive to basically every sense. I didn't want to listen to the music, look at anyone, walk on the sticky floor, or drink anything. I just wanted to leave.

That's only an hour away, but my parents don't like going to Norfolk, especially dowtown. Besides bands don't tour there often, especially my favorite ones.
