Basically the 17 year old son apparentally told the mother he was going off to rob a jewelry store, so, being a supportive mother, she gave him a ride.
Now, I may not be an expert on parenting, but I'm fairly certain that the correct response to "Mom, I'm going off to rob a store," is not "Just let me get the keys and I'll give you a ride."
