A three way war going on now?

Apparently Israel is throwing itself against Hamas as Hamas and Fatah are fighting eachother. Looks like a three way fight is fully in progress. I wonder what would happen if Fatah, Hamas, and Israeli ground forces met at a street corner. Who will shoot at whom?

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip — Israel pounded Hamas targets with airstrikes Thursday, killing six people and wounding dozens as it stepped into intense fighting between the Islamic militants and the rival Fatah movement of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

The Israeli attacks followed Hamas rocket barrages on southern Israel.

The strikes made it harder for Hamas gunmen to move around, and prompted accusations — on Hamas Web sites, radio and TV — that Abbas-linked forces are in cahoots with Israel. Hamas contemptuously called Fatah fighters the "Army of Lahad," a reference to a Lebanese general allied with Israel in the past.

And from the Washington Post (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/05/17/AR2007051700419.html?hpid=moreheadlines)

This is really really interesting!

Eh, if true, it only proves that Israel gets off on violence and carnage. They could have stayed out of this one, but noooo, they couldn't.

So you are saying that they should not have responded to the rocket attacks?

The latest Israeli attacks, and the reported movement of a handful of tanks a few hundred yards into the northern Gaza Strip, followed a third day of Hamas rocket barrages into Israel.

They could have quietly sat this out while fanning the flames between Hamas and Fatah. Attacking outright only serves to remind them that Israel is still there and has bigger guns. Face it, the leadership in Israel is all about cowboy mentality right now.

Only so many rocket attacks before Israel responded. I am surprised they responded after 3 days of it.

The only reason I can call the U.S. that is Bush's voice and personality ("alright you Iraqi vermits!"). Other then Kim Jong-Il (a BIG cowboy fan), no other nation is really "Cowboy" out there.

Israel wins after they bring in a tank and kill both Fatah and Hamas. After which they both combine and shoot at Israel for 2 weeks until one attack fails and they go back to fighting each other.

Anyway we should look at the bigger issue here, Israel's dominance over the region is preventing a massive civil war in the Palestinian territories. So Israel pulling out won't prevent violence but might actually escalate violence.

Oh yeh and right now the Israeli government sucks, they need new elections badly, really really badly.

That's the problem with this fucking conflict. Too many people willing to completely disregard all the horribly brutal things one side has done while wagging their twisted little "moral high ground" finger at the side who doesn't tow their favorite political line.

Disgusting.

Yeah, I know. Israel is a piece of shit. It's been one for a long time. That doesn't excuse the fact that Hamas is an organization of hateful, blood thirsty fucks who routinely slaughter innocent people for their "God" and their politics. You gladly minimize their brutality and defend their actions, why? Because Bush supports Israel!?!

They don't deserve a state. People who through their lot in with those bastards deserve a cell or a grave.

Of course, most of Israel's governing officials should be behind bars along with them, but we hardly live in a just or moral world.

If Israel was a piece of shit like you claim it is, it probably wouldn't be around today.

You do realize the Jews fled to Israel after gee, the Holocaust?

And the last time I checked, it was America as a whole that's been backing Israel ever since 1948, not just Bush.

Except for the graves part, I agree.

Re the OP:

If only Hamas shoots at the Israelis, or the Israelis get in position without being fired upon (longer-ranged guns, cover, Hamas and Fatah ignore the Israelis):

Israelis side with Fatah. Hamas gets pwned. Fatah buys the Israelis falafel later.

If Fatah shoots at the Israelis:

Israelis withdraw (using such tactics as covering fire, of course). Fatah and Hamas continue fighting.

Oh I tend to agree in part but not when Hamas wants to destroy Israel. In order for both Fatah and Hamas to unite, they both need to throw down their arms and stop trying to 1) kill eachother and 2) stop trying to kill Israelis.
