Since their decision to suspend Opie and Anthony (the message boards say they're fired) XM has lost thousands of subscribers and some advertizers too. http://www.peopleagainstcensorship.org/

If you support the boys, write your congressman and senators and tell them to block the XM/Sirius merger.

So...they lose subscribers if they don't suspend people, and they lose subscribers if they do suspend people.

They're pretty much fucked.

This is news to me. Care to explain to me why XM pulled the plug on them?

i dont support the boys. they are vile nasty men who BELONG on xm radio.

xm and the new merged company need to see if they can buy some balls while they are out there shaking things up. why would anyone pay for radio if its not going to be edgier than broadcast?

Please, how many people would cancel a subscription because O&A laughed at a homeless guy who said he wanted to rape Condi Rice and the first lady? Probably not too many. Now when you fuck with Opie and Anthony you're going to piss off a huge percentage of XM subscribers. Many people only got XM because of the bbbboys.

They had a homeless gentleman on who was talking about how much he'd enjoy having non-consensual relations with Condoleeza Rice and the first lady visit the show. As he expounded on his preference for forced intercourse with Republican women the boys chuckled. XM received a few complaints and made them apologize. The boys later griped about being forced to apologize on air and XM decided to suspend them. Sources close to the show say that they're going to be fired at the end of the suspension.

Why would anyone pay for radio in the first place? That's part of the business's problem, as far as I can tell. Radio's been in a downward trend as part of the average person's life for the last what, 60 years? So unless you live in a place that's so remote that you don't pick up much or any broadcast, why would you pay for it? So far, Sirius and XM haven't done a good enough job of answering that question.

Now, if the answer is "so you can get stuff like Opie and Anthony," then fine--but XM needs to decide if that's the direction they want to go in, and if they can find enough people to pay for the privilege of listening to it.

I do not sponser anything so there's nothing to boycott :D

I listen to XM for the music and for the sports I can get. Not for the talkshows. :p

i dont remember the price of sat radio but it was always much higher than i could justify for what i would get.

if you spend hours in the car every day and if you like to have more control over what you hear, i suppose it can be worth it. last summer my niece had just purchased a used car that had sirius radio in it and it seemed like it might be useful for some things.

just not for me. and it seems that its not for that many other people either.

If they are going to suspend their vulgar talk show hosts, they might as well just shut down the whole fucking thing because they lost. You can't compete with free terrestrial radio as a pay service by being just like them.
Some one needs to be like "Hey, asshats, people are paying you money to not be like terrestrial radio."

Good.

odd, weren't you the one wailing about how it was so unjust for a student to be suspended for saying "that's gay" because of some misguided understanding of the first amendment?

So you're against censorship...unless you don't like what's being said?
