They've given out some nice little prizes for children in happy meal boxes, but this one will appeal to kids of all ages.

Sucks to be the drive through guy. Not only do you work at McDonald's, not only did you lose your weed, but now you're going to court on marijuana charges. I wonder if he got so stoned he just forgot he put it in the happy meal box.

i didn't know you could be charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, that's a strange one. guess you don't have smoking shops over there then?

saw something about that. apparently, he put the stuff in a box to hide it, but another worker thought it was part of the family's order and gave it to them.
so it's actually worse. you loose your weed because you hit it too well.
I want this instead of some crappy toy.

A 17-year-old employee, Brandon Scott, of 523 Chambers St., Ottawa, admitted to the officer the materials belonged to him and he had placed them in an empty Happy Meal box, Zeilmann said.
They'll give out a 17-year-old's full name and exact address in the news? What the fuck?
EDIT: Thought it was Ottawa Canada, not Illinois.

Yeah we do, but they're in a legal gray area. You can sell a "tobacco pipe" like this one in stores.
http://i5.tinypic.com/520nc08.jpg
But you need to stress that it's for tobacco. If anyone even mentions weed, or if it's found near weed or with weed residue in it it's now illegal drug paraphernalia.

oh i see, that's pretty silly i reckon. here you've got smoking shops with marajiuana leaves stensilled all over them, just because it's associated with weed doesn't prove that it will be used with weed is the stance here i think. although obviously there are probably very few cases where someone buys a bong and then doesn't smoke weed from it.

Shortly after, one of the children -- an 8-year-old girl -- told her father she found a lighter, a smoking pipe and a small bag of marijuana inside her Happy Meal box, said Police Chief Brian Zeilmann.
Here's my question: How did an 8 year old girl know it was marijuana?

She probably didn't. She probably just showed it to her dad, and her dad knew what it was. You know how the media is at twisting details.
Michigan just banned all "drug paraphanalia" even if it was said to be just for tobacco. Put a lot of good shops out of business. I miss thee, Blue Hippo!

They're probably on some kind of performance enhancing substance?
I've worked at McD's, and I'll say that speed is such an important part of the job that whoever made the happy meal and handed it out could've missed the contents of the box (particularly if they put the napkins in first, covering it).
That said, having marijuana or drug accessories at the work place (obvious things like bong shops excluded) is unacceptable, particularly when it's as kid-oriented a place as McDonald's.

kind of like if you carried drugs with you to an Elementary School you worked at. If a kid found that, they might get in trouble for searching through your things, but you'd most likely be automatically fired.
